When buying doors, it is not necessary to spend money on a new door frame, because it can be made with your own hands. The main difficulty lies not so much in manufacturing as in the assembly of the frame for installing the door, since the cutting of connections and nozzles has its own specifics. In this article, we will examine in detail the entire process of manufacturing and installation of the door box.

Design characteristics
In most cases, in stores, the door leaf is sold separately from the box and it is quite difficult to find a suitable model. In addition, the purchased box may not fit the size of the doorway, especially if you built the house yourself or make a redevelopment of the apartment.
Any door boxes have a similar design - this is a frame, the folds and bars of which are fastened with each other in a special way. Special bolts or steel linings are used as fasteners.
Measurements and sawing
For the manufacture of a door frame with your own hands, you will need special locksmith tools and handling skills. But first, it is necessary to make accurate measurements so that when installing the finished box, there are no unforeseen difficulties.
There are two ways to remove measurements:
- on the door;
- on the doorway.
For the first method, measure the side sides of the door and add 5 cm to the resulting dimensions (the thickness of the door frame). After that, take measurements of the threshold and the upper part, making the same allowance of 5 cm. Calculate the meter and proceed to the manufacture of the corresponding elements of the box. Then fold the cut out bars on the floor with grooves up, mark the upper and lower faces of the future door, not forgetting to add the thickness of the rock. In order for the cut line to be visible clearly, make cuttings on the bars, which will be applied to the crossbar at the top and threshold.
Sprinkle the prepared materials and adjust them to the necessary sizes. In one of the side blanks, make two small slots for installing loops using a chisel and hammer. The side on which the slots for loops will be made is selected depending on which direction the door will open.
In short, the whole process of manufacturing the interior door box looks as follows:
- A smooth board with a thickness of at least 5 cm is cut into 4 equal parts, two of which correspond to the length of the door (doorway), and the remaining two are width.
- All elements are processed from three sides (the fourth side will be hidden in the wall, so it is pointless to spend time on it).
- Depending on the width of the board, a cut is made where the door will be placed, and it is made only from the side where the door will open. Thus, protection against drafts and noise penetration is obtained.
- If you want to install a box for a double door, the cuts should be on both sides.
- The ends of the parts are treated with a shirt, polished with sandpaper, slightly smooth out the corners.
The standard dimensions of the door frame: the long elements of the door box are 193 cm, and the crossbars - 90 cm each. The cut depth should be about 1.5 cm with a board width of 5 cm.
Assembly and installation
To prevent irregularities in the process of installing a door box in the opening, you must be able to use the construction level and plumb line. If the box rises crookedly, the door will not be able to close tightly, or you will not be able to hang it on the hinges.
If you install the box in an apartment or a house with stone walls, use wooden pegs and nails for fastening. When dismantling the old doors in Soviet buildings, you can see that then the box was attached with long nails of 120 or 150 mm. More information about this is presented in the article "Dismantling of the doors: step -by -step instructions".
If you work with the walls made of plates, only brackets can be used as fasteners.
The cut of the door frame
A very important point in the process of assembling the door frame is the creation of backwoods. Shards are cuts on vertical and horizontal structural elements, thanks to which all parts adjoin each other as tightly and reliably as possible. Professional door collectors use two cutting methods - under 45 ° and under 90 °. Consider each of them in more detail.
When firing a box of 45 °, the master takes the boards and puts the mark on the inside of each of them - oblique lines to remove excess and get an angle of 45 °. Then it removes the unnecessary part, while the angle outside will be 45 °, and inside - 135 °. The length and width of all elements are preserved. Small transverse bars are drank from all sides, and vertical - only on top (there is no need to saw below, since the box will be stronger to stand on even “legs”).
To assemble the door box of 90 °, you must first arrange all parts of the structure on a flat surface. The corners are carefully connected by self -tapping screws (2 pcs. In each corner). This method is much simpler and faster, but the appearance of such a box is not as aesthetic as in the case of 45 °. “Straight” boxes are mainly placed in sheds, cellars, bathrooms and other similar rooms.
Installation of loops
Before inserting the door frame into the opening, you need to cut the loops. They should be at least 20 cm from the extreme part of the door leaf. It is important to correctly calculate the depth of the loop entering the box element. Keep in mind that with a closed door between the door frame and the canvas, a 4 mm gap remains. It is easiest to cut the area for the loop with an electric mill, but if there was no such tool, use ordinary chisels and a hammer.
Attach the loop to the bar, circle with a pencil and cut the desired part. For an ordinary wooden door, two pieces are enough - above and below. The lower loop should be located 21 cm from the edge of the frame, since 1 cm must be left on the gap between the floor and the door.
Scroll the loops and attach the door leaf to the box to transfer the location of the mounts. It remains only to cut similar recesses in the canvas and you can start installing the box.
How to install a door frame
The task of the door frame is to hold the door leaf in a stable position, so the design itself should “sit” firmly in the opening. For reliable fixation of the box, experts use two methods: strengthen the frame with small rails located perpendicular to the racks, or add hard wide mounting corners. By putting the box in the opening, install the struts in it, which will fix it in the correct position. So it will be easier to screw screws and finally fix the structure.
During work, constantly use a plumb line to check the verticality of all elements. Also control the evenness of the angles until the final fixation. The main difficulty is that the doorbroore canvas almost never rises perfectly the first time, and the position has to be corrected. To eliminate the gaps between the frame and the wall, small wedges or mounting foam are used.
When you adjusted the frame to the opening, you should fix the box on the slopes. Check the strength of the structure, make sure that nothing superfluous sticks out in the corners and sides (wedges, spacers, racks, etc.). To fix the box for slopes, use dowels. Before twisting to the end, check that the angle is 90 °.
To “ennoble” the door box on top of it should be attached to the platbands. To do this, use wood, nails, or super -resistant construction glue for wood. If you use screws, hats can be covered with decorative plugs. On sale you can find platbands with special grooves, which only need to be clung so that they are firmly held.
Assembly of the finished box
The fastening of the door frame, as well as the assembly, is a rather specific task, which is difficult to cope with a person who has no experience or at least theoretical locksmith knowledge. If you are not sure of your capabilities, it is better to purchase doors with a door box. Such a finished kit is sold in a disassembled state and without hung loops so that the buyer independently chooses which way the door will open.
The assembly process of the finished kit:
- Lay out the boxes of the box and make sure that the shortest of them has grooves. If there are no grooves, it means that all parts of the door frame will have to be fastened with nails or self -tapping screws.
- Coasten the upper and side bars and gently whip them together. In order not to harm a wooden structure, use a wooden kiyanka.
- Fix the elements with self -tapping screws, check the evenness of the corners and the strength of the structure.
- Sprinkle the protruding ends of the bars so that they do not interfere with the assembly.
- Measure the width of the upper part of the structure and cut the rail slightly longer, and then put it to the side parts with nails.
- Remove the extra ends of the rail.
- On the inside of the horizontal crossbar, retreat 20 cm on top, attach the loop and circle it with a pencil.
- Return 21 cm from below and, in the same way, circle the loop.
- Cut the plate with a chisel for fastening the loops, having previously calculated the depth (taking into account 4 mm of the clearance).
- Scroll the loops with self -tapping screws and attach the box to the door. Transfer the marking of the loops and cut off the mounting places on the canvas.
- Measure the height of the doorway and make the appropriate mark on the bars.
- Carefully raise the P-shaped structure and insert it into the opening.
- Check the correctness of the position using the construction level and plumb line.
- If you need to knock out one of the sides, insert a block of suitable thickness between the wall and the box.
- Fill the remaining gap with mounting foam - it will not only make the position of the box even stronger, but also prevent the possibility of drafts.
- Attach the frame with the dowels to the slopes, remove the temporary spacers, cut the protruding wedges and install the platbands.
