Any windows need care and it doesn’t matter whether they are made of wood or high -strength plastic. So if you have acquired modern plastic windows, then sooner or later you will face the question: “What care they need?” This article will help you preserve the PVC, in good condition and maximize their service life.
General recommendations
Today, plastic double -glazed windows significantly prevail over classic wooden windows. And this is not surprising - PVC windows are much cheaper, and it is much easier to care for them. In addition, plastic windows are not susceptible to spoilage with parasites, unlike wood. And if earlier the double -glazed windows were the subject of luxury, now they have become an obligatory attribute of any modern housing, office or commercial.
Plastic windows protect against noise, dust and cold. High -strength materials are focused on many years of reliable service, but often the owners of such windows have too high hopes for them, thinking that this modern element is deprived of all sorts of flaws. Unfortunately, this is not so, and PVC windows need care, even in the most minimal.
General recommendations for the care and operation of plastic windows:
- The protective film, which is available on each new plastic window, should be removed no later than 10 days from the date of installation.
- After installing the windows, it is necessary to carefully clean the second -end space from the residues of installation construction work - foam, glue, etc.
- Since the plastic windows are highly tight in the closed position, the circulation of moisture and air in the room is suspended. In order to avoid the appearance of condensate, ventilate the room at least 10 minutes a couple of times a day. The sleeping room and the kitchen require more frequent ventilation.
- Since moisture tends to settle in colder areas, and they are double -glazed windows, do not block the flows of warm air coming from the batteries. Also, the temperature in the room should not be lower than 15C, otherwise the probability of fogging will increase.
Washing windows
Today, manufacturers of plastic windows offer to purchase double -glazed windows with any degree of glass transparency. But, whatever option you choose, the transparency indicator will directly depend on the proper care, namely the presence of dust or scratches on the surface. Despite the fact that double-glazed windows have the property of dust and dirt, they need periodic washing.
Window profiles are made of high -strength synthetic material of olivinyl chloride, which has excellent protective properties and is well washed. To clean windows, you can use the most ordinary degreasing detergents. Any dishes are suitable for washing dishes - CIF, Fairy, Prill, etc. For lack of the above means, an elementary soap-water solution can be used.
However, it should be borne in mind that not every detergent is suitable for caring for plastic windows. The composition of the drugs should not have aggressive chemicals and abrasive materials, otherwise, after washing, stains or scratches will appear on the frames, they will become rough and lose their protective qualities.
A list of funds, the use of which is not permissible for washing windows:
- alcohol;
- acetone and acetonom -containing drugs4
- acid;
- petrol;
- any drugs with chlorine content;
- concentrated alkalis.
It is also not recommended to use sponges with a hard coating or various improvised items to remove mud clusters.
In cases of strong pollution, with which ordinary detergents cannot cope, use special drugs for the care of PVC windows. They can be bought directly from the manufacturer of profiles or at the household chemical store.
Small tricks
Several small "home" tricks that will help keep the windows in constant cleanliness:
- after washing, wipe the windows with a solution of 30 ml of water, 70 grams of glycerin and a pair of droppings of ammonia - this will allow the glasses to remain clean and transparent;
- to create a pleasant greenish tint on the glass, wipe the surface with a solution of copper sulfate at the rate of 1 teaspoon of sulfate per 1 liter of cold water;
- the bluish tint can be given using ordinary dry ultramarine;
- so that flies do not sit on the glass, treat them with ordinary dining vinegar 6% or 9%.
Care for the seal
Care for the seal of plastic windows requires special attention. The main task of the seal is to protect against moisture, dust and cold. That is, by and large, it is he who is “to blame” that the plastic windows are so convenient and practical, and if the seal fails, the functionality of the window will instantly fall. Urgent care of plastic windows in the winter is necessary if you notice ice. This is the main indicator that the seal is damaged, and the window does not cope with its heat -saving functions.
In modern models of plastic windows, as a rule, seals made of black or gray rubber or high -strength rubber rubber are used. Separate care for seals will not take much time and effort. It is enough to periodically wipe them with a damp cloth moistened in soapy solution. After drying, lubricate them with glycerin or any remedy that contains glycerin.
For lubrication of the sealant, you can use:
- glycerol;
- petrolatum;
- silicone lubricant;
- silicone -based handle cream;
- hand cream with high percentage of glycerol.
It is strongly recommended to use chemical or organic solvents for cleaning seals, since they destroy the material.
If the seals for any reason have lost their elasticity and began to pass air and moisture, they must be replaced with new ones. With proper care, the seal will last at least 5 years, but sooner or later it will still have to be replaced.
Furniture care
The fittings of plastic windows are constantly subjected to strong loads, so before ordering windows, pay attention to its quality, the materials from which it is made and the manufacturer’s reputation is made. Timely care for the fittings of plastic windows will ensure a long service life and the comfort of your housing. But even the most expensive and high -quality accessories must be paid attention to at least once a year.
Recommendations for the care of fittings:
- visual inspection for damage and serviceability;
- cleaning with a dry rag, brush or vacuum cleaner;
- casting with lithium lubrication or lubrication of VD40;
- machine oil processing in places of fixation of fittings.
Lubrication must be covered with all technological grooves located around the perimeter of the window. Places of fixation and all non -static (moving) mechanisms should be treated with machine oil. The use of machine oil, which contains resins, acids or other aggressive substances that can disrupt the anti -corrosion barrier of the profile and accessories, is not acceptable.
List of lubricants suitable for accessing accessories:
- aerosol lubricant WD40;
- machine oil (Motul 8100)
- silicone machine oil;
- mineral oil;
- oil for lubricating parts of sewing machines;
- graphite lubricant or "lilet";
- lubrication for bicycles.
It is best to use special lubricants for windows that can be purchased at a household chemical store or from a manufacturer of window profiles. The composition of these products includes special mineral oils, antioxidant substances and elements that prevent corrosion. As a rule, such lubricants look like aerosols and are very convenient to use.
Mechanical damage to the components of the fittings should be avoided, removing all extraneous objects and pollution in the space between the frame and the window sash. Also, accessories can suffer if you hang clothes or other items on an open window.
Also make sure that there are no lubricants (just a few drops enough). Otherwise, she will drain down into the seal and violate its protective properties.
The frequency of the fitting for fittings depends on the frequency of use of windows. According to the general standard, the maintenance of accessories must be carried out at least once a year, but if you live in a big city or on the first floors of the building, then the mechanisms should pay attention more often-approximately every 6-7 months. It is also necessary to check the functionality of the fittings and the general cleanliness of the windows after repair work.
Caring for the windows will not be a burdensome task if you immediately take it a rule to check their serviceability and cleanliness, say, during each “general” cleaning in the apartment. Only a few minutes of inspection and care will help to extend the operating time of the windows several times, and your house will be reliably protected for many years.
