All owners of country houses and modern apartments with fireplaces sooner or later face the need to paint furnaces and metal elements (lattices, dampers, accessories). The coating update is necessary not only to maintain aesthetics, but also for the convenience of using and extending the service life of the entire design. In this article we will tell you what heat-resistant paints are suitable for processing furnaces and fireplaces.

Selecting paint
Even those who do not have their own furnace in the house are about what it consists of: a stone case or brick, doors, dampers, frames, handles, etc. The entire design is subject to painting, even if it is made of the highest quality stone or metal.
For staining of furnaces, fireplaces and mangals, there is a special kind of paint that can withstand extremely high temperatures. Depending on the structure and composition of the paint, its purpose will be varied. Thus, some are only suitable for processing stone or brick, and others can be safely used to dye dampers and grilles that have direct contact with fire.
The heat-resistant paint for the furnace should be withstanding at least 300-400s, since the combustion temperature of the ordinary paper is + 400C, firewood + 300C, and if you top the furnace coal, it can at the stage of flameless burning, it can produce a temperature of Als + 900C (but it is on the surface itself Fuel, and to partitions and the inner walls of the furnace reaches much less heat). On most cans with heat-resistant paints, it is written that they can withstand + 600C (sometimes up to + 750c), which is quite suitable for an ordinary home furnace.
The easiest solution will go to the construction store and buy heat-resistant paint, designed specifically for the stove, however, the price of such products is often too overestimated. Such a specific product involves the corresponding narrow category of consumers, and marketers believe with confidence that if a person has enough funds for the maintenance of the furnace or fireplace, it is able to buy expensive heat-resistant paint. However, even the most wealthy owners are not alien to save, so you can take advantage of alternative means - many of the "ordinary" paints are perfectly withstanding high temperatures. So, you can paint the oven oil paint or a simple enamel, but if there is a olive in the composition, then the surface can darken over time. There are other refractory paints for the ovens on a synthetic basis, for example, nitrocracies, experts even strongly advise use for processing thermal surfaces. Pentaphlete compositions are also suitable.
It is useful to know: the composition and percentage of specific inclusions determine the scope of paint. By and large, it is a lacquer suspension with various additives, which form certain protective properties of paint. In most cases, heat-resistant compositions contain silicon or silicone.
Suppose you need to paint the furnace made of one material, but placed in different parts of the house, for example, one side is inside the room, and the part - it comes out. In this case, it will be necessary to work with two, and even three different compositions, since the paint used in the house will crack and get drunk on the street, and for this you need to buy heat-resistant paint with increased anti-corrosion properties. In this case, the anti-corrosion compositions are for metal and for concrete, since the properties of these materials are completely different, and the protection is needed different. But there is an option simpler - universal paints that can be applied to any coatings. On banks usually indicate the flow rate when working with concrete, metal, stone and other materials (for processing concrete surfaces requires the most paint).
Principle of operation of heat-resistant paints
The price of heat-resistant paint is determined by its composition, which, in turn, affects heatproof. Solutions cooked on a silicon-based basis are becoming increasingly popular lately. They are used not only to cover furnaces and fireplaces, but also to update heat exchange equipment and heating devices.
Useful Tip: The properties of heat-resistant paint can be changed by adding those or other components. For example, with the help of an organic resin, you can increase the drying time of the composition, make it more elastic and improved adhesion.
Aluminum powder helps to increase heat-resistant characteristics - it can withstand temperatures up to + 600C.
Refractory paints not only improve the appearance of the design, but also extend its life. This happens due to the fact that the paints are evenly and smoothly distribute high temperatures throughout the surface treated with them, as a result of which the furnace does not overheat. It is especially true for metal welds, which have properties to melt from the continuous impact of the heat. Paints retain surface vapor permeability, protecting simultaneously from petroleum products and humidity, which are distinguished by burning.
Paint manufacturers
The Russian market is replete with heat-resistant paints for furnaces and fireplaces. In any construction store you can find at least three options from different manufacturers - domestic and foreign. Consider the most popular of them.
Paint New Ton.
The Ukrainian manufacturer is famous for its inexpensive, but high-quality products, and produces all sorts of compounds in aerosols. The heat-resistant paint for a metal furnace from New Ton is able to withstand temperatures up to + 600C. It consists of anti-corrosion substances that protect metal from overheating and rust. It is rather elastic, durable and not deformed from temperature drops.
Before painting aerosol enamel, it is necessary to prepare the surface - clean the metal with sandpaper and degrease the solvent or alcohol. If you can remove the metal part for painting, it is better to do it. If not - all the nearby sections are not subject to color, cardboard, film or newspapers should be covered.
It should not primine the surface before coloring - you can immediately spray enamel, holding a cap at a distance of 25-30 cm from the metal (if you bring closer, the paint will flow). Before use, it is recommended to shake a cylinder for 1-2 minutes to stir paint.
If you painted the damper, and she still did not have time to dry, it can already be placed in place and ignite the furnace - enamel completely reveals its protective potential after the first raining to 200 ° C for 20 minutes.
Duraheat 2.0 paint
Powerful refractory paint for processing metal surfaces. The one-component composition is able to withstand the temperature to + 1000c, for which it received such a name. The mixture is based on the modified silicone resin and special pigments that resist extremely high temperatures.
The heat-resistant paint 1000 reliably protects metal surfaces, keeping its color. It can be processed not only ovens, fireplaces and mangals, but also exhaust pipes of cars, boilers, mechanical parts exposed to heating, heating boilers, weapons, etc.
It has high elasticity and good adhesion even to glossy surfaces. With a protective film thickness at 30-50 μm, consumption ranges from 10 to 12 square meters. m per 1 kg of paint. It will dry at 20 ° C for 60 minutes, but complete drying occurs when it is first warmed up to + 200 ° C for 1 hour.
Thermal paint
Heat-resistant enamel from the manufacturer of special-purpose paints. The thermal Code 8111 is able to withstand the temperature to + 600C and can be used for metal processing and other surfaces.
Universal paint is produced in a multicolor palette, so it is possible to choose an option in the tone with the interior of the room. It is mainly used for anti-corrosion processing of steam pipelines, oil and gas pipelines, exhaust and chimneys, parts of engines and other mechanisms. Protects not only from overheating, but also from aggressive chemical exposure of oils, salt solutions, wandering currents, chlorine, etc.
Paint cerette
The heat-resistant paint CERTA is designed for refractory and anti-corrosion protection of metal surfaces and parts from other materials. Like the previous remedy, protects the metal from overheating, the effects of chemicals (petroleum products, hydrochlorides, mineral oils).
The CERS is able to withstand not only the heat to + 900c, but also frost to -60c. It can be handled engines and exhaust pipes, chimneys, asbestos-cement pipes, concrete and reinforced concrete. The paint reliably protects from heat and atmospheric precipitation, while maintaining vapor permeability. Available in 520 ml aerosol cylinders.
Tikkurila paint
The world-famous Finnish producer of paints and building mixtures offers two options heat-resistant paint - silver and black. Silver paint is made on the basis of aluminum powder and is able to withstand temperatures up to + 900c. Designed to protect the metal surfaces of furnaces, fireplaces, mangals and furniture from the heat and atmospheric precipitation. You can use both indoors and outside. The manufacturer claims that the paint can withstand an extremely high temperature up to red iron crigngement.
The black heat-resistant ticcuril paint is designed to process surfaces that are heated to the maximum to + 400c. It can also be used inside and outside the premises. It is possible to apply thermo-paint with a tassel or using a spray gun.
Paint elcon.
The heat-resistant paint ELCON is an anti-corrosion enamel that can withstand heating to + 800c and cold to -60c. After drying, it does not allocate harmful chemicals, so it can be used indoors. This is one of the most common options for stoves, fireplaces, mangals, pipes and chimneys.
It can be used as a heat-resistant paint for bricks, concrete, asbestos cement, metal and other surfaces.
The uniqueness of the paint is that it can be applied even at negative temperatures and in the exposure zone of the electrostatic field. The manufacturer gives a guarantee of 15 years.
How to paint the oven.
So that the oven does not need to repaint in a year or two, it is necessary to carefully prepare the surface and buy "the right" compositions. Make sure the paint purchased is designed for internal works if you paint the fireplace or oven in the house, and for external - for parts of the construction outside the house.
Painting consists of several stages:
- Clean the surfaces that will be painted, from old paint and varnish, sera and dust. Metal parts should be deguted with alcohol or acetone, pre-sticking with sandpaper. If you are going to paint the cooking surface of the furnace, pay special attention to it and prepare every centimeter.
- If fat stains were found on the surface, they can be removed by a hot soda solution - extinguish the soda with boiling water, moisten the rag and attach to a stain for a couple of minutes.
- Dry the surface.
- Remove the old primer if it is available - the primer is not needed for thermocracy.
- You can paint the furnace at any temperature, but it is still better to perform it to protruding, since the final drying of the composition occurs at a temperature not lower than 150c.
- Apply paint to the surface in any suitable method (roller, flat brush or spraying).
- After drying the first layer of paint, apply the second. Heat resistant paints should be applied in 2-3 layers (we remind that the paint should be heated to 150 ° C for complete drying).
- Immediately after painting, maximize the oven or fireplace to secure the composition.
In compliance with all the above instructions, the protective coating will last at least 10 years.
Alternative: Blows
Create refractory protection for a metal furnace or dampers can not only with paint. Previously, no one knew about any heat-resistant compositions, and the flaps and grilles of the furnace were treated by chemical oxidation, or simply a binding. As a result, the metal surface became matte-black and did not rust.
There are several binding methods, we will tell about the easiest of them:
- Clean the metal surface of the sandpaper of different caliber (from more to a smaller).
- Treat the part with a solution of sulfuric acid 5% to remove oxides.
- Remove the remains of the acid with a solution of the economic soap. To do this, 50 g of soap soda on the grater and spread in warm water (the alkali will quickly remove the acid).
- Blown is carried out with the help of caustic soda. Make a solution of 50g per 1 liter and heat it up to 140c.
- Apply a caustic natra on the part with spraying. It is strictly forbidden to use for this tassel!
Finally, a couple of people's recipes, or Lifehakov, how they are now called them. These tips will help you avoid buying an expensive thermocracy for the oven. So, in order to handle a stove or fireplace on a stone or brick street, use gas-silicate glue - apply it with a brush, as a conventional paint. If you need to handle the metal, cover it with silver on the liquid glass. And if you leave for a vacation or you will not use the oven for a long time (for example, in summer), then process all metal parts with a rag moistened in lean oil.
