With the development of technology, designers offer new types of interior partitions. Glass partitions also became frequent, they can be seen as an important attribute of design not only in office and shopping centers, but also in residential premises. Until recently, glass partitions in the room were perceived as something taken from hotels or a movie of ideas for the uniqueness of design. Today they gain popularity and no longer cause concerns, in terms of security and fragility of the material - this problem has long been solved.

The use of glass partitions in residential premises

Glass is suitable for widespread use, not only for windows and interior doors. Other surfaces are decorated with special decorative glass-false-beds and floors with backlight, walls with stained glass, beds in the bathroom and stairs.

The most common options:

1. Glass partition in a bathroom made of corrugated glass or with a sandblast pattern - for zoning the dining room and kitchen.

2. Replacing part of the wall with an open panorama in the apartment - a winter garden, a bay window, a glazed corner balcony with a glass pie on the contrary.

3. When redevelopment in the dark central part of the house, a blank wall is replaced with glass - to penetrate daylight, and people who have a fear of a closed space with the help of glass partitions in the apartment solve their problem.

4. Part of the living room or hall, adjacent to the corridor, the wall is often replaced by a glass pie with opening doors - for visual expansion of space.

5. Basins - a partition from matte glass in a small -sized apartment allows you to divide the toilet and the bathroom without prejudice to the area.

6. In an apartment for a single tenant, part of the walls is willingly replaced with interior transparent partitions.

7. Decorative partitions of glass processed using special technologies allow a regular apartment to be transformed to the level of an expensive hotel.

Varieties of glass partitions

Having decided to order the installation of glass partitions in a specialized company, it is important to know their varieties and installation features in order to pay for the most suitable option.

There are 3 main types of glass partitions: sliding, stationary and mobile. In turn, they have subspecies:

  • fixed partitions with a single -leaf and double -leaf sliding door;
  • stationary partitions without a door;
  • partitions with a single -leaf or double -leaf pendulum door;
  • deaf partitions with a sliding door with a roller mechanism;
  • glass fences on metal fasteners for suspension of stairs, terraces or balconies;
  • the wall of the glass blocks is single and double.

Mobile partitions made of hardened glass 10-12 mm are limited in size-up to 3.5-4 m, whole-glass panels-up to 1200 mm wide. The glass is framed by the profile partially or around the perimeter, a shut -off mechanism with a lock is attached to them.

One of the varieties of a glass partition is presented in the photo:

Please note that the transparent bottom expands the space, and the matte top eliminates the sensation of the aquarium, decorative colored partitions of stained glass glass lose their sensation.

Important: a deaf, stationary, motionless and fixed glass partition - the same thing. Doors are distinguished by pendulum and sliding. The pendulum door is equipped with a fixing sping and reliable fittings, and the pillage -shaped partitions with a roller mechanism and guide.

1. Partitions are distinguished by the type of glass - corrugated, matte, color, transparent, decorative, with a pattern. At the same time, different technologies are used to create a special effect. This is partial matting, fusing, applying a rough pattern, reinforcement, spraying and chemical etching. Inserts are also used from a mirror, metal, plexiglass, foil, gems, crystals, color self -adhesive film, etc.

Tip: color film for glass - widely accessible material, is applied independently if it ceases to arrange transparent glass. Such material is a stained glass film, it can also update glass partitions in the interior.

2. According to the type of fastening, the glass partitions are continuous - from floor to ceiling in full -lump, or incomplete. This is if the partition goes from the ceiling and the floor not the end, half -manned, encloses one corner or creates an arch in the doorway. In incomplete structures, additional fasteners are used, and for additional rigidity in glass fences, special glass is used - triplex.

Tip: a partial partition is convenient in the bathroom and shower room, when problems with evaporation and high humidity affect the health of asthmatics or cores.

Glass partitions, the price of which depends on the variety of installation, the presence of doors and the type of glass - from 200 dollars. And above. Remember that the option with doors or decorative glass costs an order of magnitude more expensive than a simple glass partition.

Advantages and disadvantages

The main advantages:

1. The spacious room is divided into functional zones.

2. Promote visual contact of family members.

3. They solve the problem of lack of light, especially when the apartment goes to the north side.

4. Help the layout of a place in a small apartment when combining a narrow kitchen and living room.

5. Visually expand the apartment when replacing part of the walls with transparent partitions.

6. They solve the problem of high humidity, holding pathogenic fungi in a raw room, which is easier to treat, ventilate and dry.

7. They occupy less space in comparison with ordinary walls, due to their compactness.

8. Durable, strong and aesthetic, do not require special care, except for the wiper.

9. The minimum of time during installation and dismantling during repair.

10. prevent the spread of smells and increased humidity between rooms or create an additional temperature barrier.

11. A fungus and mold are not started on smooth glass, so the damp cloth is successfully replaced.

Flaws:

1. Weak sound insulation.

2. They visible fingerprints, especially children's, requires frequent cleaning.

3. Large whole glass cannot be installed independently.

4. Inattentive guests with poor vision can try to go through a transparent wall.

5. It is undesirable to put in seismically active places, in old houses with wall cracks or with an uneven floor.

To the question of reliability and fragility of the glass wall

The visual fragility of glass walls is only a sensation, and such glass is safer and stronger than drywall. Partitions are not made of ordinary glass, so do not worry about safety. They are made from a particularly durable hardened glass of 10 mm. Safe glazing makes it possible to widely use them in public places and houses. At the request of the customer, the glass partition can be unique - you can apply any pattern or logo using sandblasting. Buy glass partitions additionally covered with an invisible film from fragments is useful if it is necessary to protect the structure from mechanical damage.

The wall of glass blocks looks more durable. They are also used for interior decor, blocks have similar characteristics. A wall of glass blocks can be done independently, they should be talked separately about them.

Glass blocks of glass blocks

Often, glass blocks - square products are hollow inside, where each side is an attached soul mate or a half -block of color or transparent material. This is a kind of hermetic glass brick, empty inside, with a wall of 5-7 mm, so that the wall has higher sound and thermo-insulating properties.

Many have seen a wall of glass blocks back in Soviet times - window openings in the porches, pieces in workshops, halls and baths were often made from such material. And this was justified, since they have high indicators for strength and sound insulation, are not afraid of temperature changes and high humidity, and do not need to care for. However, in those days they had less aesthetic qualities and were not used in the decoration.

The use of glass blocks in the apartment

1. As a wall for separating dark interior and corridors from adjacent rooms for greater light permeability, which allows you to save on light in the afternoon.

2. As partitions in a spacious house for zoning or to separate functional zones.

3. As an additional pie in the bathroom and bathrooms, in the kitchen or a spacious living room.

4. As window openings in the attic, on the stairs or between the toilet, the bathroom and neighboring, well -lit windows. Matte glass blocks are suitable for the window of the window from the bathroom right into the courtyard or on the street.

5. As a decor - as the main or additional material, this will be discussed at the end of the article.

6. As a complement to furniture - a bar counter for the kitchen, washing under the washbasin. Empty semi -blocks of large sizes will replace the cells of the cabinet for trifles in the room of adolescents or in the garage.

7. As a floor for a podium with a lower back in the kitchen, in the hallway or other rooms - it all depends on the imagination of the designer and the owners.

8. As a filling of the lumen under the steps - and in utility rooms.

Standard dimensions of glass blocks

Today, the production of glass blocks went far forward, the company specializing in their release offers high -quality material with excellent aesthetic properties. On the websites of manufacturers - a wide range of glass blocks of different sizes, surface textures and color. Transparent and matte glass blocks of different shades are available.  The blocks are less transparent and pass 50-85% of the light, the image behind such a wall is divided into fragments and vaguely.

5

The material for the walls of glass blocks has a standard release form.

1. Blocks:

  • 19x19x8 cm;
  • 24x24x8 cm.

2. Walking blocks:

  • 19x9x8 cm;
  • 24x11.5x8 cm.

Non -standard shape: rectangles, triangles, corners, puzzles and circles of different sizes. They are inserted into a concrete hangout or go for the installation of window lumenes of the attic.

How to build a glass of glass blocks with your own hands

There are several ways, the main ones are frame and frameless. The second case is a cement mortar or mounting glue. Such a wall can really be assembled in 1 day, but do not rush, it dries up to 2 weeks based on cement. The wall on the frame is easier to dismantle.

Tip: a wooden frame is contraindicated in the bathroom, mold will settle there. For rooms with high humidity, only an adhesive method of installation or on a plastic frame.

First, decide on the design and method of laying glass blocks, take the necessary measurements, then you can purchase building materials. The best choice for independent styling is the Blocklock system, they fit easier than others. The basis is PVC profile, mounting glue and glass blocks of the desired size, this design is simple, durable and reliable.

The installation process of glass blocks based on PVC profile and glue

1. Mark for the future wall at a place cleaned of dust. Remember that it should be adjacent to the perpendicular surface of the wall at right angles and is built strictly vertically. This must be checked when laying.

2. The glue is applied to the floor and walls strictly by marking, where the Blocklock profile is attached.

3. The first blocks are applied to the profile, starting from one wall, and a vertical profile is installed between them. Glass blocks around the entire perimeter are greased with glue economically, without subtexts.

4. A horizontal PVC profile is laid between the vertical profile on the glass block and so on.

5. The glue is applied to the resulting layer and the horizontal profile is mounted.

6. The following layers are mounted similarly, checking the vertical of the structure with a plumb line. After 5 rows, the work can be postponed to allow the glue to dry.

7. The continuation of the work depends on the speed of the adhesive composition, it is done with the interval in stages.

8. After the wall completely dry, the seams for complete tightness can be filled with a lamp or a special light filler, a sealant for the decoration of ceramic tiles will also be suitable.

3

Cement solution -based installation process

1. The first stage is made similarly to the 1st description, but according to the marking of the installation of glass blocks, a primer of deep penetration is applied, it dries the day.

2. Preparing a solution for masonry: small sand, cement and water in a ratio of 3: 1: 1, you can add PVA glue-50-100 grams per bucket. It is better to buy a construction mixture for the installation of glass blocks and dilute with water before laying.

3. Lay 2 rods for reinforcement from stainless steel on the floor, in order to avoid corrosion, and apply the solution. Make so that the rods do not go beyond the line of glass blocks.

4. The sides of the glass block is lubricated with a solution and the first layer is laid, checking the horizontal level. For alignment of the seams, installation crosses are exposed, as when laying ceramic tiles, they can remain walled up.

5. For the strength of the masonry vertically and horizontally, thin rods are laid for reinforcement.

6. Completing the installation of each row, remove the entire excess solution from glass and seams, since after drying it is more difficult to remove. In the seams, make grooves for grout. The solution from the glass is removed with a wet rag and wiped dry, after the blocks, the wiper is treated until shine.

2

7. A wall of glass blocks on the cement dries 7-17 days, depending on the temperature of the room, and 1 time it is better to lay out 3 layers with a pause for grasping the solution, otherwise the wall can glance under its own weight or fall.

Tip: For radial or round laying, part of the wall use semi -blocks of the same color and texture, reinforcement should be more thorough. When constructing a radius partition, mounting crosses are placed only in the inner seams. The sizes of the seams will depend on the radius of the bend of the wall.

The use of glass blocks with decorative purpose

Glass blocks and semi -blocks with inserts make it possible to widely use for decorative purposes. Inside, you can place the collection: shells, butterflies, dry flowers, fruit fones. Color fillers from balls look interesting. The easiest way to lay out of them any ornament according to the selected drawing. The latest design developments include stained glass blocks from baked color material.
