Thanks to the tireless work of interior designers today, you can observe an amazing variety of bathroom design options. This is also facilitated by the fact that the approach to the use of finishing materials is radically changed. A clear example of this is the use of glass - if earlier only shelves and decorative elements were made from it, today a bath with a glass partition is becoming a common thing. Many people liked the practical and stylish innovation, so we will devote today's article to the creation of a glass partition in the bathroom with our own hands.

The purpose of the glass partition

In the interior of a modern bathroom, you can often find elements that were previously considered unacceptable in such a room. In such a specific room, it was always customary to give preference to strong and functional materials - tiles, porcelain, stainless steel. But the glass is also not afraid of moisture or wear, and with proper manufacturing technology it becomes strong as a stone.

The glass partition in the bathroom is an original and stylish solution that will not only transform the interior visually, but also will take on a number of functional loads. Why put a glass partition, only the customer himself can say, but we will consider what role this detail can play in the interior of the bathroom.

The purpose of the glass partition in the bathroom:

  1. Decorative function - of course, glass as a separating element looks unusual and beautiful, especially if a pattern is applied to it, a stained glass window, or the surface has a relief. If you decide to equip the apartment, say, in the oriental style, then in the room you will put a bamboo partition. In a constantly moist bathroom, such an obstacle will not last a long time, so you can install a light glass partition with a stylistic painting - hieroglyphs, a crane, the sun or the same bamboo as an alternative.
  2. Separation into functional zones - a glass partition, unlike brick or drywall, does not overload the space, leaving it light and airy. At the same time, it is a real obstacle separating the zone, for example, showering from the restroom, if it is an adjacent bathroom. If a washing machine, drying and ironing board are located in the bathroom, this “linen” zone can be delicately fenced off from the rest of the room, rationally using the space.
    11
  3. The camouflage function - partitions for the bathroom made of glass will serve as an effective masking, if, for example, pipe pipe pipes are stuck out of the walls and they cannot be hidden in any way. Then you can hang a beautiful lamp on the partition or attach several glass shelves on it, turning an ordinary screen into a functional wall. The combined bathroom can not do without such a partition, especially if several people live in the apartment. In order not to cause discomfort to each other and increase the aesthetic look of the bathroom, put an opaque barrier between the toilet and shower.

Classification of partitions

The idea of \u200b\u200binstalling glass partitions in the bathroom appeared for a long time, so the designers had a lot of time to come up with various types of structures.

Today, there are several types of baths for the bathroom:

  1. Depending on the material used - it would seem that it is also in the bathroom, but no. There are thin -leaf partitions from monolithic elements and glass block - made of thick double -walled glass "bricks". Smart partitions are frame and beless. The latter are completely transparent and are not suitable for visual distinction between space. They are more often used as a bathroom or shower doors.
  2. Light transmission - light permeability of glass partitions depends on their decor. They are completely transparent, translucent matte and completely opaque. It should be noted here that transparent or translucent partitions are suitable for small rooms, since the dark will “press” and visually reduce the space even more.
    9
  3. Mobility-in terms of mobility, stationary barriers and transformer partitions can be distinguished. The latter can be quickly collected or dismantled to transfer to another place or completely removed. One of the most common mobile partitions is a glass blade on rollers, which can be moved according to the type of wardrobe, overlapping the right or left side of the room.
  4. Depending on the opening method, there are partitions without doors with a stationary opening and, accordingly, with doors (swing, retirement). Opening partitions in most cases are used in showers and spacious combined bathrooms.
  5. Purpose - zoning of the room, disguise or arrangement of a shower cabin.
    10

The only, with permission, the lack of such partitions is that they are recommended only in rather spacious bathrooms, because if you try to install even a light transparent barrier in the toilet of a conventional Khrushchev, it will be at least uncomfortable.

Manufacturing technology

As mentioned above, glass partitions are monolithic from whole thin -leaved glass and glass "bricks". The thin -leaved partition, despite the apparent fragility, is made of durable hot glass, which still needs to be divided. Glass blocks are almost indestructible (in any case, at home, it will not work to break such a barrier).

Glass block partition

The glass block is an element created from two glass plates, compressed under high pressure, between which a hermetically closed cavity is left. Thanks to this design resembling a thermos, glass blocks are one of the most effective energy -saving materials in the world. In the Soviet Union, windows from glass blocks were often made in the entrances of residential buildings, so inside it was always warm even in the coldest winters and cool in the summer. Today, walls, original flooring, countertops, bar racks, etc. are made from glass blocks. We will tell you how to make a bathroom partition from this material with your own hands.

Before you get to work and go to a construction store, make a drawing of a future partition, estimate how many glass blocks are required, select the color (or several colors).

Tools and materials necessary for work:

  • glass blocks;
  • adhesive solution;
  • grinding for seams (select in tone to glass blocks);
  • reinforcing tape (wire);
  • PVC-tape;
  • stainless steel spatula;
  • rubber spatula;
  • crosses for glass blocks of the desired size (from 1 to 16 cm or more);
  • knosyak knife;
  • sponge for washing dishes;
  • dowels;
  • plumb and construction level.

Properly installed glass blocks for partitions in the bathroom will last at least 10 years, so accurately follow the instructions.

It is not difficult to make such a wall of “transparent brick”:

  1. Draw the markings on the floor and the wall to which the partition will adjoin. It is not necessary that it gets to the ceiling. You can make it 1.5 m high, and put pots with flowing curly colors upstairs. Or make a little lower and grow on the partition of the orchid (if the bathroom has a large window and a fairly natural light) - they just love constant humidity and warmth. The marking should consist of 2 parallel lines, the distance between which is equal to the width of the glass block.
  2. Check the evenness of the horizontal lines on the floor using a building level, on the wall - using a plumb line. If the devices showed that the wall or the floor is uneven, they will have to be aligned, otherwise the glass blocks will stand crookedly, and the partition will not last long.
  3. Any house over time gives a shrinkage, and so that your partition does not suffer (after all, it has to stand for at least 10 years), it is necessary to provide protection. To do this, glue the PVC tone between the marking lines, freeing from the protective layer and moving over the surface.
  4. Lay glass blocks from the corner, where the floor is joined with the wall. Apply the adhesive composition to the wall and the bottom of the block with a layer of 2.5-3 cm and slightly press the “brick”. Adjust the position relative to the marking by tapping it with a spatula handle. The protective film from the glass blocks does not shoot until the end of the installation!
  5. After installing each block, check its evenness using the level.
  6. Lay the entire lower row in a similar way, smearing the bottom and side of each block and not forgetting to install break -in crosses between them, so that later they get even and beautiful seams.
  7. Every two segments (vertical and horizontal) “weave” a reinforcing wire or tape.
    4
  8. Having laid 3-4 rows, interrupt for a day so that the solution should properly grasp. Keep in mind that the glass blocks weigh quite a lot, so the solution on the lower rows can “move out” if there is too much mass on top.
  9. When part of the wall is ready, remove an excess solution between the blocks using a knife-kosyak or a corner of a spatula. This must be done immediately until the solution froze. Simultaneously with cleaning, pick off the crosses, slightly prying them with a knife.
  10. After a day, you can start laying the next wall segment, and so on to the very end.
  11. When the wall is ready, you can proceed to grout of the seams. If you are afraid to make a mistake with color, choose a white grout - it always gives spectacular contrast. Dilute the grouting solution to the consistency of a thick sour cream and apply it into the voids between glass blocks with slight pressing movements. For this work, you will need a rubber spatula.
    5
  12. From the habit, you are unlikely to get perfectly even seams, but this is immune. After drying, the greased areas can be easily “fed” with sandpaper No. 2 or No. 1.
  13. Rinse the excess grouting with a damp sponge for washing dishes.
  14. Only now you can remove the protective film from the glass blocks and enjoy the work done.

Sheet

With the laying of “bricks” is it more and more understandable, but how to make a glass partition from a whole leaf? This process is somewhat more complicated, but the effect is created completely different. In order to independently make such a screen, it is necessary to produce a lot of calculations - glass weight, marking, profiles, fasteners, etc. As a rule, a beginner who does not know in engineering, such a task seems to be excessive, so many prefer to buy ready -made systems. In fact, this greatly facilitates the work, and you save on the installation - anyone can cope with the finished system.

How to make a glass partition in a bathroom of a solid sheet:

  1. Mark on the walls, ceiling and floor. In this case, the partition will reach the ceiling.
  2. Check the evenness of the marking with a plumb line so that the lines on the ceiling and on the floor are in the same plane, otherwise the partition simply will not stand in the fasteners.
  3. Install the profile by screwing the tire along the lane lines with dowels.
  4. Place rubber gaskets under the tires to reduce pressure on the surface, create a soundproof barrier and prevent the destruction of the partition from the shrinkage of the house.
    7
  5. Fix the squares on the tires by installing 2 pcs. Through every meter. This is necessary so that the partition is as stable as possible and does not fall.
  6. Scroll to the zakulniki, without twisting to the end.
    8
  7. Fasten the glass in the connectors using a hexagonal key. First, install the canvas in the lower connectors, then - to the upper and lastly in the side. This work is best done together, and even better - the three of them (two hold the glass on each side, and the third directs).
  8. Adjust the height of the partition by adjustable supports or lining and tighten the cloth to the end.
  9. For partitions from several glass sections should be installed 1-3 cm from each other, and then pour the cracks with sealant.
  10. Install decorative pads, clicking on the one side on one side, on the other - to clutch. If necessary, put the end cover on the profile.
