The rope staircase is a very convenient device. True, they usually think about its acquisition, when it is necessary to climb into the attic or go down into the pit. But it is better to take care of this in advance. For example, the rope staircase can be ordered in the online store of summer and garden equipment Klondike. But it’s more interesting and cheaper to make it with your own hands.

To begin with, let's analyze why such a rope staircase may be needed.
The scope of the rope ladder
- As sports equipment. This shell will perfectly complement the Swedish wall of the house or horizontal bar in the yard.
- For household needs. Do you need to climb into the attic or clean the well? The rope staircase will help you with this.
- The rope staircase game for children. Ideal for developing outdoor games. Improves orientation in space, dexterity, flexibility and motor skills.
- As a means of salvation (staircase rope rescue LVS).
Many will say: “Why complicate? After all, there are wooden stairs and metal ladders? " But, rope stairs have undeniable advantages.
Why is the rope staircase better than wooden or metal?
- Small weight. There is no need to look for a strong man to move the stairs to the right place. Even the baby will cope with this task.
- Convenience of storage. This design is quite compact and takes up very little space.
- The simplicity of making a rope staircase with your own hands. A little zeal, time and accuracy is all that is necessary to create a rope staircase (except for materials, of course).
- Cheapness. All materials for the manufacture of the rope staircase are inexpensive, or even at all, dust somewhere in the attic.
So, how to make a rope staircase with your own hands, and what nuances should be taken into account? Let's figure it out.
What can be a rope for such a staircase
- Cotton twine.
- A rope of synthetic fibers, such as kapron, polypropylene, nylon, lavsan, etc.
- With a twisted tourniquet made of natural linen or hemp fibers.
What can the steps be made of
- From plastic. Such finished steps can be found in construction stores.
- Made of wood (finished bars or carved specifically, or just the same pieces of ordinary branches).
- From metal. The metal should be light, but durable so that the steps do not bend under the weight of a person.
- From the rope. Such steps practice on ships, using special methods of weaving from ropes for their manufacture.
Creating a rope staircase with your own hands
What materials and tools will be needed?
- Wood bars for steps. The cross section of the ideal bar is 6x4 cm, the length is 35 cm. They can be purchased in a construction store. Although, you can cut them from cuttings for garden equipment. You can even make steps from suitable branches that you will find in the nearest forest belt. The main thing here is to remember that such a part of the branch should withstand the weight of a person (preferably an adult too). Therefore, strong and non -rotten samples are needed.
- Sandpaper.
- Olifa, antiseptic.
- A rope with a section diameter of at least 1.5 cm from durable soft fibers. The length of the rope should be 2 times larger than the length of the final product.
- Fasteners. This is in case the staircase is planned to be attached to the roof or wall.
- Drill and drill.
Preparation for work
- Cut the blanks for steps of the required size.
- Grind each blank with sandpaper
- Swell the bars with an antiseptic and olipoi.
- Drill holes on both sides in each step, retreating from the edge of 3-5 cm. If you plan to make a staircase using sea nodes, then the holes are not needed.
- To control the distance between the steps, make a sample: put on a wide board two bars 10-12 cm long. The distance between the bars will serve as a basic sample and simplify the process of assembling the steps.
- Cut the rope into two equal parts.
- Tie on each part of the rope along a strong node from one end.
Production process
In the manufacture of a rope staircase, it is important to know that the ideal distance between the steps for adults is 30 cm, for children - 25 cm.
- Pass the rope into drilled holes.
- Fasten it with a strong knot after 25-30 cm from the beginning.
- Repeat this operation every 25-30 cm until the rope ends.
- At the upper ends of the ropes, attach carbines, which will facilitate the further placement of the stairs.
- Bind the lower ends of the ropes to each other
Nodes
- Sea knot or constant. This knot is quite reliable, withstands the weight of an adult. For such nodes, drilled holes are not needed, it is enough to make a recess under the rope with a knife or file.
- If you are not a “sea wolf” and with complex nodes you have problems, you can go in a simple way. In the place of the rope where you need to make a step, tie one simple knot, put the rope into the hole in the step and make another same bundle. All. The step is fixed. It is only necessary to monitor the symmetry of these nodes on both pieces of the rope in order to avoid distortions.
To extend the life of the stairs and avoid cracking of the steps, special protective rings made of metal, prepared in advance, can be put on their edges.
If a wide staircase is needed, then longer bars are taken for steps. At the same time, one more hole in the middle is drilled in the steps, and a third piece of rope is tied into such holes.
