Creating a rope staircase with your own hands

What materials and tools will be needed?

1. Wood bars for steps. The cross section of the ideal bar is 6x4 cm, the length is 35 cm. They can be purchased in a construction store. Although, you can cut them from cuttings for garden equipment. You can even make steps from suitable branches that you will find in the nearest forest belt. The main thing here is to remember that such a part of the branch should withstand the weight of a person (preferably an adult too). Therefore, strong and non -rotten samples are needed.
2. Sandpaper.
3. Olifa, antiseptic.
4. A rope with a section diameter of at least 1.5 cm from durable soft fibers. The length of the rope should be 2 times larger than the length of the final product.
5. Fasteners. This is in case the staircase is planned to be attached to the roof or wall.
6. Drill and drill.

Preparation for work

• Cut the blanks for steps of the required size.
• Grind each blank with sandpaper
• Swell the bars with an antiseptic and olipoi.
• Drill holes on both sides in each step, retreating from the edge of 3-5 cm. If you plan to make a staircase using sea nodes, then the holes are not needed.
• To control the distance between the steps, make a sample: put on a wide board two bars 10-12 cm long. Production process

In the manufacture of a rope staircase, it is important to know that the ideal distance between the steps for adults is 30 cm, for children - 25 cm.

1. Pass the rope into drilled holes.
2. Fasten it with a strong knot after 25-30 cm from the beginning.
3. Repeat this operation every 25-30 cm until the rope ends.

Nodes

• Sea knot or constant. This knot is quite reliable, withstands the weight of an adult. For such nodes, drilled holes are not needed, it is enough to make a recess under the rope with a knife or file.

• If you are not a “sea wolf” and with complex nodes you have problems, you can go in a simple way. In the place of the rope where you need to make a step, tie one simple knot, put the rope into the hole in the step and make another same bundle. All. The step is fixed. It is only necessary to monitor the symmetry of these nodes on both pieces of the rope in order to avoid distortions.

To extend the life of the stairs and avoid cracking of the steps, special protective rings made of metal, prepared in advance, can be put on their edges.

If a wide staircase is needed, then longer bars are taken for steps. At the same time, one more hole in the middle is drilled in the steps, and a third piece of rope is tied into such holes.
