DIY windows lattices

Initially, the lattices on the windows began to be placed in order to protect their housing from uninvited guests. But over time, people began to turn their attention not only to the reliability of the design, but also to whether such a fence would make the facade of the building more attractive.

Simple grille

Very often, people perceive the fence on the windows as a negative phenomenon, as a limitation of their freedom, so the blacksmiths came up with several types of this design. You can make gratings on the windows with your own hands, for beginner masters there is the easiest option: first, leave the ends of the reinforcement in the openings of the window, and then attach rods to them and decorate with finished forged products. It can be:

1. Peaks.
2. Baskets.
3. Monograms.

To make a grate on the windows with your own hands, you need to stock up on metal stripes or rods.

1. Make measurements of the window on which you will put the lattice.
2. Make a drawing of the future lattice.
3. Using the drawing and calculations, bend the rods or put them on each other and weld them at the joints.
4. So that the rods do not peek out, it is necessary to make a frame around the perimeter of the fence.
5. Check that the holes in the grate are not large, even a very thin person should not squeeze into it, otherwise it does not make sense.
6. A simple grill is ready and the turn has come to decorate it with forged products. Places of connection of the lattice and patterns should be closed with special compression, then they will not be noticeable against the general background and will not spoil the picture. To protect the home, the simplest design is also suitable, but with decoration, the lattice will turn into an element of design. But such lattices are also an order of magnitude more expensive than ordinary ones.

If your budget is limited, then ordinary welded grilles will suit you. If you once held a welding machine in your hands, you can try to make them yourself. Their design is simple, but it is much more reliable than in the forged version, in addition, their design can be different. Their distinctive feature lies in the fact that in form they resemble geometric shapes, and all parts are located symmetrically. The main elements can be called:

1. Arcs, ovals.
2. Rings or parts of them.
3. Forms resembling the Latin letter "s".

Due to the fact that they look neat, but they serve reliably, welded gratings are leading today when choosing window fences. It is difficult, but it is possible to make a sliding grill with your own hands. All complexity is concluded in the mechanical part of this design. Separate sections should not only fold, but also move.
The design of the sliding grill consists of:

1. Frames, which is a guide for the movement of the lattice and holds the entire structure. Above and below the frame there are grooves along which the videos drive.
2. The grilles that will need to be divided into separate sections and mobilely connect them to each other. And fasten the roller mechanism from above and below.

For the manufacture of grilles on the windows, you need:

1. For the manufacture of a folding mechanism, you need to prepare two plates for each section between the rods.
2. Make two holes on the plates at the edges and one in the middle. Combine them through holes (first crosswise, and then at the edges). This must be done using steel rivets, because the plates should remain mobile. There should be three such mechanisms: from above, in the middle and below of the grate.
3. Where the plates are connected to the hole in the middle, you need to weld a vertical rack. So it is necessary to do immediately with three mechanisms. Make sure that they remain in a pushed state during the fasteners of the elements.
4. Attach the extreme plates when they are in a detailed state to the frame using steel rivets. In order to prevent the shutters from under its weight, you need to put the guide so that the bearing glides along it, it must be mounted from the edge of each sash.
5. Install a lock or latch at the discretion of the owners. You can use spindle or door locks.

Material for the lattice

As a material for a welded grate can serve:

1. Rods.
2. Metal square.
3. Combined profile.
4. Metal stripes.

In order to save money, you can use metal stripes, but it is worth considering the fact that they are cheaper than other materials, but they are also inferior in quality and reliability. Yes, and highly artistic products can hardly be called.
From a metal rod or square you can make an interesting grille on the windows. Typically, the masters take a square 16x16, and a rod with a diameter of 2 cm. The grilles for windows from pipes are durable, but still more often the masters make the frame from the pipes, and the structure made of other materials inside. As a rule, in order to make welded grilles, take different materials and combine them.

Installation of grilles

You can mount the lattice with two options:

1. To the ends of the window opening.
2. In the overlay on the window opening.

If the dwelling is built of brick or concrete, then metal pins should be scored into the window openings so that at the end they protrude a couple of centimeters. The finished lattice must be attached to the ends of the pins.

If the building is built of wood, then the eyes of the eyes should be attached to the window frame, the structure to the ends of the window is screwed through their holes with screws. In houses from glued beams, the installation of the lattice can be carried out. To do this, drill holes for screws over the entire wall. And in order for the design to hold firmly, it must be put on through bolts. This is the most reliable way to attach window grates, but it is not always acceptable, everything depends on how thick the walls are and what material was used for construction.

You can put the fence in this way:

1. Mark on the window frame, where the grill will be attached with pins.
2. Using a perforator, make a recess in the marked places. You need to install the rods starting from the bottom and gradually moving to the top.
3. Private the grill. This is the most reliable way to attach this fence. You can weld, both a stationary lattice and swinging.
4. If there are loops in the lattice, then try not to damage them when installing, otherwise you will no longer be able to open and close this design.

After installing the grill, it must be painted, so you will hide the welding location, and the structure will immediately have a complete look. The paint will also protect the metal from the destructive effects of natural phenomena, especially from humidity. So the lattice will last longer.

In the same way, sliding grilles can be attached, but for them you still need to mount the runners, along which the whole structure will move. Also, if the lattices are sliding, then they are easier to hack, which means that you need to provide protection against hacking. Powders can be hidden behind various decorative elements, most often these are plants in pots.

For independent installation of the design, there is another option - these are removable lattices. They are attached to special hooks, while the grate should be not heavy in itself. But experts do not consider this design reliable, it rather performs a decorative function and will not become an obstacle to the attacker. Also, this type of lattice is appropriate when you will soon have a window replacement.

But by reliability, the bars that are installed indoors are leading. For example, in all banks they put precisely such designs. Experts believe that in order to hack such a lattice, you need to spend much more time than on the one that is installed outside. But, if in this way put the structure at home, you will have to redo the slopes on the windows, because the existing ones during installation will be damaged.

There are situations such as, for example, a fire, when the grate becomes a kind of trap for the owners of the house. In this case, sliding or swing bars can help. This kind of designs can be seen on many public buildings, because the fire service would not have given the installation of a solid resolution of permission.

Sliding grilles can open on their width almost completely (by 80%). If you make such a lattice yourself, it is imperative to ensure that the lock is from its inside. But the key to this castle should be stored in an inaccessible place for children.
