Repair of old wooden windows

Removing old paint from wooden surfaces

1. Having removed window glasses, clean the folding grooves from dirt and foreign growths from paint and putty.
2. Window frames disassembled and without glasses, you need to clean from old paint. For this, a special chemical cleaner or mechanical method is used. Through a construction hair dryer or in a more radical way - a soldering lamp.
3. The paint purifier is effective with slight layering. If there are many layers of paint, use heat treatment. The softened old paint is removed with a spatula.
4. The wooden window surface cleaned of the paint is treated with sandpaper or grinding machine. After grinding, dents and damage are wiped with putty on wood. After the putty dries, the final thin surface cleaning is made. A window box and window sill are subjected to similar processing.

Replacing the details of the binding of a window frame

1. Depending on the size of the opening of the window frame, the window consists of imposts, dividing the frame into two or more part horizontally and verticals.
2. In the event that one or more imposts are not subject to restoration - they can be replaced. Choose good rectangular pieces of timber, dried, without knots and give for a profile groove to the carpentry workshop.
3. Make them drawing marking for spikes, eye -rush, nests and folds.  Cut the bars at an angle of 45 °, taking into account extreme tolerances.
4. The bars are attached in the intended place, then with a fine -toothed with a saw or a jigsaw they are washed down with spikes and eyes. A slight skew can ruin all the work. The spike, made thicker than the width of the nest, will lead to the appearance of cracks, and the spike, less the eye of the nest leads to the lingering of the frame.
5. Having washed down the spikes and eyes, they begin further processing. In spike parts, the cheeks are cut and the fold surfaces are cut. All roughnesses are removed with Zenzubel or folder and adjacent surfaces are adjusted. To make the assembly easier, the small champs “on the mustache” is removed with a chisel. Some tight nodes are carefully beaten with a mallet.
6. The binding is assembled, checked by a carpentry square. Pay attention to the fact that the fakes of the frame are in the same plane. In this case, the glass goes smoothly on the folds and good tightness is achieved.
7. Having checked the binding dry - all compounds are coated with carpentry glue and collected again. The assembled binding is placed in vaims and verified the correctness of corners and distortions. Holes with a diameter of 10 - 12 mm are drilled in the corners and the waddles greased with glue are inserted into them.
8. On the bottom bar of the binding, the tint is arranged. The size and shape of the tide is different, but there should always be a tear under it - a groove of a semicircular or rectangular shape. It is located on an outer edge 10 mm from the edge. They put the tints on the jet, additionally fixing with nails tilted.

Glazing of wooden window frames

1. Window glass should be 3 - 4 mm less on all sides of the distance between the high folds. This is necessary in case of wetting and warping of wood.
2. A thin layer of a transparent silicone is applied along the perimeter of the fold, which will prevent the penetration of moisture and dust.
3. On the reverse side, stagnes smeared with silicone and fixed with hairpins. The studs are clogged at a distance of 200 - 300 mm and to a depth of 7 - 10 mm.

Painting wooden windows

2. For high -quality paint coating, the window block is covered with an Oliph. After drying the Olifa, you can start painting. As a rule, the windows are painted in two layers, the first - primer and the second - finishing.
