Plastic pipes are an almost perfect solution if desired to build a reliable pipeline. They are durable, have good strength and differ in low cost. However, such pipes also periodically give leaks. This is mainly due to the violation of the process of soldering pipes and errors made at the same time. In the presence of a soldering iron and an appropriate tool, a solder of polypropylene pipes will be affordable even a beginner.

The required pipe soldering tool
The main thing that is required for work is a special soldering iron for polypropylene pipes, with which it is soldered and welding. The device must be selected taking into account the specifics of the work. If a single or infrequent use of the device is planned, then it makes sense to rent it.
In addition to him, the following will be required:
- Teflon nozzles of the required diameter for mounted pipes.
- A special cutter or scissors for cutting PVC pipes. It is advisable to first verify the unnecessary piece of the pipe that the tool is well sharpened. This is necessary in order to avoid the appearance of burrs or deformities on the trim of the pipe.
- A means for degreasing and cleaning the surface of PVC pipes from pollution.
- A rag for wiping.
- A file with a fine -grained coating or a few suprafilles.
- Boot or mounting knife. It is made of metal trim 10 cm wide, which should be cut at an angle of 45 ° and sharpened.
- To apply marks, you need a pencil or a thin marker. To make the marks easier to remove, an ordinary marker is used. If there is a need to maintain marks, then you need to purchase a permanent marker, which is practically not erased without special means.
- For accurate installation and proper pruning, a roulette and a square are required, with the help of which an accurate laying of pipe segments in relation to each other will be made.
The process of soldering pipes itself is technically uncomplicated, but the connection is required with special accuracy, since it is often the defects in the soldering that entail further problems.
Components for connecting pipes
Pipe areas are connected using fittings that are the connecting part of the pipeline. They are installed in places of turns or branches of pipes, but also serve for a sealed connection or ceiling. Depending on the purpose, the fittings are divided into several varieties:
- discharges that allow you to change the direction of the pipeline,
- tees form a branch in one direction from the main pipe,
- crosses make it possible to draw in two directions from the main pipe,
- crossbound fittings are able to reliably connect pipes of different diameters,
- the plugs are used in cases where it is required to ensure a sealed sealing of the ends of the polypropylene pipe,
- if welding of polypropylene pipes involves the subsequent connection of pipes with a flexible hose, then the connecting fittings are used.
Fitings are distinguished by their reliability and strength. Due to this, they are widespread on the market as a connection elements for water systems with different temperatures of passing water. Polypropylene compounds differ from plastic fittings in that they are not so sensitive to water temperature and can withstand the effects of high temperatures up to 100 ° C and chemically aggressive media.
The material is able to last up to 50 years, and even simple plastic fittings are not subject to corrosion or rust, and will not require replacement due to wear. In addition, their final price will become another significant plus in the direction of choosing just such an element of accessories.
What methods of connecting pipes from PVC exist
Experts distinguish several types of compounds of polypropylene pipes, each of which is suitable for certain requests:
1. The bell -shaped connection is used in those pipes, the manufacturers of which provided them with rubber sealing rings. Such gaskets allow you to make the joints of the pipes airtight, and the operation of the installation of the water supply is greatly simplified. The connection method is as follows:
- the chamfers are removed from the pipes, and the entrance of the pipe segment in the connection is applied,
- a gluing composition on a silicone basis is applied to the sealing ring,
- further, the elements of the pipes are interconnected so that the axes coincide according to the marks,
- the pipes are interconnected by the bell and the connection is ready.
2. The flange connection implies the use of connecting fitting. The process itself takes place in this order:
- the prepared pipe segments are cleaned at the ends,
- a flange and a rubber gasket are put on the cut of the pipe,
- the flange is moved to the gasket itself and then connects to another pipe segment using bolts with a return flange,
- all bolts are tightened evenly, not in full force, so as not to shift the structure, but first to set the level. Next, the finish tightening of all elements is already produced.
3. Cold welding of polypropylene pipes implies a connection of pipes using fitting and adhesive composition. This method allows you to make a high -quality connection of pipes without the use of a soldering iron. But it must be remembered that it is the ration that will ensure the reliability of the design, especially if it is assumed that the system will be subjected to loads. As such, high pressure in the water supply or high water temperature usually acts as such. Installation consists of the following steps:
- a chamfer is removed from the ends of the pipes. The cut is carried out at an angle of 15 ° to prevent further scraping of the adhesive composition from the thread of the fitting,
- measuring marks are applied to the pipes, thanks to which visual control of the correct installation will be carried out,
- using alcohol -containing cleaning agents, pollution and plastic parts are removed from the connecting part of the pipe,
- further, over the entire surface of gluing and the inside of the fitting, an adhesive solution is applied with an ordinary brush,
- the pipe segments are inserted into the fitting and turning on ¼ revolution in order to more evenly distribute the glue on the surface of the pipe. This will reliably fix the pipe sections in the fitting,
- using a rags or rags, the remnants of the glue are removed, which could protrude beyond the borders of the connecting elements,
- at the end of the process, the adhesive composition is given the opportunity to dry naturally, without exposing the assembled part of the pipeline to any loads.
The specified connection methods are well suited for systems with minor loads or low pressure and low temperature of passing water. Polypropylene pipes can withstand high temperature, unlike plastic ones. But it is important to remember that the glue itself, when exposed to heating on it, is capable of collapsing or melting from the time of it, which will lead to a violation of the integrity of the system and its subsequent gap. To avoid this, the pipes must be interconnected by soldering or welding. These two methods have a lot in common with each other and often means the same actions.
Polypropylene pipe soldering technology
Any work implies the need for a preliminary preparatory stage of work, which includes such actions:
- Pipes in the joints are thoroughly cleaned and degreased. This is done using alcohol -containing cleaners.
- At the places of the pipe entering the fitting, with the help of a pencil or marker, marks are marked. The correctness of the pipe segment into fitting is visually controlled on them.
- From the ends of the polypropylene pipe, at an angle of 15 °, chamfers are removed. This is necessary so that the pipe is tightly included in the connecting fitting.
After the preparatory work was carried out, it is necessary to start connecting the pipes. In fact, it consists of four steps:
- cutting,
- heating to the desired temperature,
- connection of pipe segments among themselves in fitting,
- cooling.
Pipe cutting is carried out using a special tool called a pipeline. It is a well-sharpened scissors with blades, which, with their appearance, are more reminiscent of scissors-a co-operator for horticultural work. Spike is carried out by a soldering iron.
The temperature of the soldering of polypropylene pipes is 250 ° C, while the work should be carried out at the proper speed so that the elements of the connection do not cool. It is important to carefully study the time indicated in the instructions for heating the elements, since when they overheat them, the coating is deformed. The ends of the pipe and fitting are dressed on the nozzle of the soldering iron and warmed up during the specified time. After heating, the elements are simultaneously removed from the soldering iron and inserted into each other. The connection of the pipes itself is fixed, after which no load is attached to it. After that, the finished connection is given the opportunity to cool, and the work is completed. The soldering of polypropylene pipes, the video of which shows its lightness, will still require a certain accuracy.
Frequent errors in soldering polypropylene pipes
Despite the technical simplicity of the soldering process, there are a sufficient number of common errors, more often allowed in the absence of experience and haste:
- Incorrect combination of connecting elements serves as the main cause of defects. If the pipe is not fully introduced into the fitting, then the gap will become less pressure and thickness of the walls. More often this situation occurs if after heating the pipe is not tightly introduced into the fitting. This does not mean that when carrying out soldering, the pipe must be inserted with significant effort. In this case, the actual appearance of another error is really: when excess material, which is also called the “grata”, is squeezed out between the end of the pipe and inner emphasis. He will reduce the passable properties of fluid flow and will prevent it, while increasing the load on the connecting element.
- Incorrectly displayed ration temperature. The optimal value is 260 ° C, with a permissible analysis of values \u200b\u200bfor plus/minus 10 ° C. Moreover, this value is equivalent to all pipes, regardless of their diameter. It is important to prevent overheating of the soldering iron in order to maintain the necessary voltage in the material. In addition, it is important to prevent the material before all the elements are interconnected.
- Incorrectly selected soldering equipment also serves as one of the mistakes. There is a certain pattern of power ratio of the soldering iron used in relation to the diameter of the pipe. To burn a pipe with a diameter of 50 millimeters, a heater with a capacity of 500 watts is required, with a diameter of 100 millimeters - a heater of 1000 watts.
Useful tips
In order for the work to be completed successfully and on time, it makes sense to adhere to these tips that will help in the work:
- pipes and connecting elements should be represented by one manufacturer. In this case, the savings are inappropriate if you want to buy budget connecting elements, and the pipes, on the contrary, are expensive. This is important, since the melting temperature in this case is often not the same, which is fraught with the monolist of the finished design,
- the soldering iron must keep the declared temperature of 260 ° C, while you should not work in a higher temperature mode to save time. It will be dubious, but the probability of damaging the material is high,
- the connecting elements must be thoroughly cleaned and degreased from pollution. Even a small amount of dirt particles can disrupt the quality of the connection,
- before starting installation and soldering, it makes sense to practice on the segments of the pipes in order to hone the skills and the required attached force for the connection. Since insufficient effort and vice versa, the excessive power of pipe inserting into fitting is a common error,
- savings are always inappropriate if you want to build a reliable system. Do not save on materials, equipment and tools, in any case. High -quality products will last longer,
- the soldering work cannot be carried out at a temperature below +5 ° C of heat. Otherwise, the efficiency of work is noticeably falling. In this case, the compounds become brittle, and a higher heating of the connecting elements is required. This is dangerous with their deformation and excessive melting.
As in any work, the ration needs to be carried out, adhering to the main subtleties:
- the desire for quality,
- accuracy,
- attentiveness,
- thorough performance of preparatory work.
In this case, the ration of polypropylene pipes, the price of which is already pleasant for the budget, will not make you incur additional costs when remaking work and detecting defects in the system.
