Baths made of cast iron are the most expensive among all kinds of baths. Their high cost is due to a number of advantages. The cast iron has a wonderful property not to be exposed to moisture - it practically does not rust and does not rot. In place of the chip enamel, a protective film is formed, and the rust does not apply to the metal. His heat conservation properties are known to everyone. No wonder the heating battery is made from the cast iron. Products from it are constantly in an active and aggressive environment - almost eternal.

But over time, the cast-iron bath loses an attractive look. Enamel is not so durable as basic material. The outer coating turns yellow, rusty drips, chips and scratches may appear. In the workshop, the cladding of the cast iron bath is worth a lot of money and is conjugate with dismantling, transportation and subsequent installation. This time-consuming and costly process that takes away a lot of effort and time.
Small repair and decoration of cast-iron bath
Depending on the nature of the damage and condition of the bath, there are several ways to clamp a cast-iron bath. Restoration of enamel with liquid acrylic, applying a new enamel layer at home or installation of a plastic tab.
- Square enamels on the side surfaces of pig-iron baths are easily eliminated by cold welding. It is only required to clean and degrease the damaged surface and shut it as a plasticine, but in accordance with the instructions. After solidification of cold welding, it is amenable to mechanical processing. Grinding, milling or drilling. After grinding, the surface is enamelled or decorated with liquid acrylic.
- For individual small cracks or scratches, there are special decorating pencils and polyters of different colors. The scratch is degreasing with technical alcohol, if necessary, hesitated by sandpaper and decorated according to the instructions for applying the decorating agent.
Preparation of the treated surface of the cast iron bath
The preparation of the surface below by the method is necessary when the cast-iron bath is restored by any method.
- First, the surface is carefully processed with a grinding machine or an electrical drill with an abrasive nozzle. In this case, you can use a special finely dispersed grinding powder. It is important not to overdo it and do not make deep depressions. Grinding is made with circular motions with light pressure.
- By bringing the entire surface to perfectly pure state and eliminating all signs of rust, dust and residues of abrasive agents are washed off with warm and soapy water. The bath is wiping up soft rag and dried. The entire surface must be processed for better grasp with a new coating.
- The surface is degreasing, for this you can use technical alcohol or special means and is wiping with a soft lip-free napkin. Try to remove all small villi and dust. Capacity can be treated with even a vacuum cleaner.
Cast iron bath restoration by enamel
Enamel for the restoration of the cast-iron bath is a two-component preparation consisting of an epoxy resins and hardener liquid. It has a different consistency, so decide on the surface of the surface covering - brush or sprayer.
- Mixing, enable according to the instructions on the package. It is better to mix for a start portion for the primary coating so that the residue for the second enameling layer does not thicken while the bath will be sinking.
- The bath is recommended before starting work. To do this, dial the full bath of hot water and allow the time to warm the metal. Drain of water, wipe dry with a soft napkin. The first layer of enamel is applied with a brush or sprayer. Withstand the time interval according to the instructions, apply the second layer. The service life of the updated cast iron bath is from 7 to 9 years.
Bulk repair of cast-iron bath liquid acrylic
This method appeared relatively recently, thanks to the invention of liquid cold acrylic or stacked. It is also mixed with the hardener and forms a polymer film on the surface.
- Old cast-iron bath is prepared in the above way. The damaged areas are cleaned, the entire surface of the grinding machine is processed and degreases. Polyluded acrylic creates a protective film with a thickness of 4 to 6 mm on the surface of the bath.
- The process of coating acrylic is somewhat lighter than the coating enamel. Pouring, starting from the top point and by turning and swinging the baths distribute it over the surface. Then the fill is made from the opposite side, and the procedure continues to a complete and uniform surface coating with a stacring. Polymer surplus are removed through the drain hole. The service life of such a bath is at least 20 years.
Repair of pig-iron baths with a plastic liner
Now they started producing ready-made plastic baths for baths. The most important thing is that this tab approaches size and corresponded to the design of the cast-iron bath.
- The inner surface of the bath is cleaned and degreases in the usual way. Damaged places are treated with moisture-resistant sealant. Acrylic liner is adjusted for drain and overflowing holes and centered. A two-component mounting foam is applied to the surface of the cast-iron bath.
- The liner is inserted into the bath, and the drain nodes are mounted. It is necessary to do it promptly, before the foam grab. After installing the bath, it must be fully filled with water for a more dense pressing of the liner to the base. The perimeter on the side is processed by a sealant, to eliminate moisture penetration, on this the repair of the cast-iron bath is completed. After 6 - 8 hours, the bath will be ready for operation.
