Modern designers use a fairly wide arsenal of ways to decorate the room. With all the abundance of high -tech materials, the preference, nevertheless, will turn off old and proven techniques, one of which is a stucco molding from gypsum.  It allows not only to decorate the room, but creates the spirit of aristocracy and luxury.

Historical excursion

The issue of decorating the tenant arose immediately after a person moved from the cave to the house. Initially, various objects and drawings were used for these purposes, but with the advent of separation by social status, the richest representatives of the community began to invent various delights. One of the first achievements of the design industry was modeling.

It was used not only to decorate rich mansions, but also in temples and other cult structures. In the Middle Ages, modeling turned into a real art, which was brought to the ideal by the artists of the Renaissance.

Since then, this interior element is considered an attribute of luxury and emphasizes the social status of the owner of the house. It is worth noting that initially, alabaster, cement or clay were used as the starting material, but with the advent of gypsum they lost their relevance, since the material is much more practical.

Advantages and disadvantages of stucco molding from gypsum

GIPS is a material of mineral origin, therefore, in its pure form it is safe for a person, does not emit toxic vapors and is environmentally friendly. Besides:

  • has a low cost,
  • allows you to create products of any shape,
  • easily accepts different colors,
  • durable enough.

However, gypsum has its drawbacks:

  • crumbles without special processing,
  • not resistant to mechanical damage,
  • loses the form in contact with water.

In practice, all these disadvantages are easily eliminated. Gypsum products have a special metal crate, on which the main array is applied, then it is covered with a small net fixing the pattern. After solidification, the part is processed with special waterproofing primers, excluding cringing, and the metal frame increases the strength.

Naturally, this increases the cost of production and, as a result, the price of the product itself. Before buying, you need to clarify the indicated nuances from the seller, since not all manufacturers comply with technological requirements, while intentionally overestimating the cost.

Gypsum stucco molding in the interior

Given such a rich variety of gypsum products, they are used almost everywhere. In order to consider the possible options in detail as possible, classify all products into three groups:

  • stucco molding for the ceiling,
  • stucco molding for walls,
  • art Deco.

Ceiling stucco molding is represented by moldings and sockets. They are installed in all rooms, except for the bathroom, since even with good waterproofing, increased humidity softens the material and affect its appearance.

Moldings differ in width and shape. The larger the room, the wider the molding should be, the same formula is fair in relation to rooms with high ceilings (more than 3.2 m). Sometimes gypsum moldings are made without patterns, there is no point in buying such a product, since all the value of stucco molding is precisely in the presence of a pattern. His choice is purely a matter of taste. It should only be taken into account that vertical lines visually increase the ceiling, and the horizontal make it below.

Another nuance is connected with animal images (for example, the head of a lion). This option is relevant for the kitchen, hall or guest. In the bedroom or children's drawing will cause certain discomfort.

The size of the sockets depends on the area of \u200b\u200bthe ceiling and the length of the base of the chandelier. There are no specific standards, but in practice, experts recommend choosing a socket whose radius is equal or more than the radius of the lighting device.

Gypsum stucco molding on the walls is represented by columns, capitals and bas -reliefs. Columns are relevant in combination with frescoes or mosaics. This is a rather specific attribute in order to harmoniously enter it into the interior, it is necessary to carefully consider the plan for designing the entire room.

The most common way is to create a terrace. A beautiful landscape is drawn on one of the walls, then columns and capitals are installed. As a result, it turns out that one of the walls is transparent and leads directly to the street.

Advice: Given the specifics and history of columns, the landscape should be a Greek or Italian motive.

The bas -reliefs are much more functional. With their help, the lower third or half of the wall is decorated. They are either battle scenes, or images of wildlife, or intricate patterns.

Another performance option is a separate picture. Such a bas -relief is located in the center of the wall and serves as the main element of the entire composition. Therefore, interior items should emphasize the uniqueness of stucco molding and attract attention to it (the bas -relief is not only carried out large, but also really spectacular, the rest of the design is as restrained and concise).

The latest trends suggest that the gallerine version of the decoration of the premises is especially popular today. It is relevant for corridors and halls. You can use bas -reliefs in this case, with the exception that the size will be much smaller (15x10 cm, 20x20 cm, 10x10 cm).

Art Deco

The popularity of gypsum was due to the fact that the material is successfully used not only to create standard stucco molding, but also for the production of other decorative elements. Initially, the technology was used only for fireplace portals. It is worth noting that GIPS, although it does not burn, nevertheless it does not tolerate high temperatures, so it is used to arrange decorative fireplaces.

Then the stucco molding will begin to create frames. The stucco molding is decorated with mirrors or canvases of paintings. In nature, gypsum happens:

  • gray,
  • white,
  • yellowish,
  • with a pink tint.

But, modern technologies allow you to get frames of any colors, which makes the product really original and unique. The larger the mirror, the wider the frame should be.

Another interesting use of stucco molding is the design of doorways. At the same time, it is not necessary to make a classic arch. Gypsum is great in order to create an openwork, which looks no less spectacular than the most expensive and beautiful door. From a practical point of view, the door from the corridor to the common rooms is not a mandatory interior item. Exception:

  • bedroom,
  • children's,
  • cabinet.

Gypsum figures successfully replace marble statues. They take any shape and size. They are used both in the form of separate elements and whole compositions. The only thing that they look only in rooms with a ceiling height of at least 3 meters and an area of \u200b\u200bmore than 50 square meters. m.
