Types of polyurethane varnishes
By the type of manifestation on the surface, this coating is divided into:
- glossy;
- half -gloss;
- matte;
- semi -water.
By the number of components:
- one -component varnishes. They form simultaneously a solid, but elastic film. This coating does not need to be additionally prepared and mixed with a solvent before operation;
- polyurethane -based varnish is two -component and it consists of a thickener and the base, which must be connected before use. Polyurethane varnish use technology
Before starting the procedure for covering a wooden surface, prepare it in the proper way:
- huddle and clean from contaminants. If necessary, treat synthetic impregnation, which will prevent the further appearance of the fungus and mold;
- apply varnish with a brush, roller or spray. It is important that the tool you use is moving along the wood fibers. If you use a two -component varnish, then mix it strictly as indicated in the instructions. Otherwise, the composition will be either too viscous or liquid, which will significantly slow down the process of solving it or, conversely, the varnish will harden in the process;
- polyurethane varnish for the floor apply at least two layers. Having gone to dry with the first layer, jump it with sandpaper. Then apply the second layer. The finish coating should dry for 8 hours.
The use of water -based polyurethane varnish
The peculiarity of such a coating is that on the surface it looks absolutely colorless and transparent. At the same time, the natural beauty of a tree or stone is only additionally emphasized. It is also important that water polyurethane varnish does not give yellowness wood, does not cause allergic manifestations, and also not toxic. The wear resistance of water -based varnish is slightly lower than ordinary varnish coatings. However, the film dries very quickly and, moreover, has fire -fighting properties.
In order for the film to be fixed as much as possible on the treated surface, the varnish should be applied in several layers. In this case, only the time of solidification of the coating is taken into account. Dry the film in 3 layers longer than usual. The frequency of application of each layer is 2-3 hours.
It is better to work with polyurethane varnish at an environmental temperature of 20-23 C. The temperature is +13 and +30 C. But in high humidity conditions, the film will dry longer. Ideal humidity-55-60%.
Bulk polyurethane varnish

When applying bulk polyurethane coating, the following rules should be followed:
- The processed surface must be dried, degreased and cleaned of dust. Otherwise, the coating will not be fixed poorly.
- If, after applying varnish, garbage accidentally hit its surface, do not despair and regret the work done. After the floor dries, it is enough to rub this place with sandpaper.
- The mixture hardens very quickly, so you need to work with a liquid floor quickly.
- Fresh coating can have an unpleasant chemical smell, but after a couple of hours it will completely disappear.
Tips for working with polyurethane varnish:
- Before starting work, experts recommend thoroughly cleaned the surfaces of dirt and fat, otherwise the coating simply will not fall on a dirty surface.
- So that the varnish does not freeze in the process of work, it should stir it and shake the container with the mixture.
- You need to apply the coating with a thin layer. And it is better and fastest that can be done with a sprayer for paint.
- In order not to spoil expensive furniture or product, first test polyurethane varnish on any other surface.
- When acquiring a polyurethane two -component varnish, it is necessary to take into account the class of its strength. This indicator is usually indicated on the packaging. For use in the apartment, varnish with normal load is suitable, and, for example, in cinemas, shopping centers and gyms, it is better to use a means with increased load.
