Surely you had to hear such a phrase as "Maevsky crane." It is intended to lower air in heating batteries. Without this small device, it is impossible to establish the operation of heating devices, since air often forms in systems, which prevents normal water circulation.
Content
In no official document, you will not find the name “Maevsky crane”, but in everyday life this crane is called this almost all plumbers. And only some can object and say the right name for this device. According to state standards, the device belongs to the category of “locking equipment” and is called “needle radiator air valve”. We will not go deep into history to find out why it is the name of the air valve.
Brief historical certificate
The crane was invented in 1933 and immediately began to be introduced everywhere. If you believe the research of scientists, then such an invention was a little earlier. In 1931, the crane invented a plumber Roev. The design consisted of 2 parts between which the gasket was located. In 1932, with the onset of the heating season, the crane went through a successful test and began to be used to tear air in heating radiators. The principle of operation of the two cranes is similar, only the Maevsky crane is distinguished by the “cone into the cone” connection, as well as the cross -shaped key shape. In general, both devices coped with one task - they pulled the air formed in the system. Over the years, the adaptation of little -known plumbing has faded into the background, and only one “Maevsky” crane began to be applied everywhere.
How the crane works
Obviously, when the temperature in the living room begins to decrease, then the reasons should be sought. The first-the batteries are poorly warmed up due to the fact that air fell into the system and warm water cannot circulate normally. Then the Mayevsky crane for radiators is used.
If you do not remove air from the system, then it will not be fully filled with water and you should not expect heat. To solve such a problem, it is necessary to install a special device on the batteries, which is widely used to remove air from radiators. We are talking about central heating systems. Usually, when organizing individual heating, such problems rarely arise, but from personal motives, many owners set Maevsky cranes on radiators if water is filled inside the system. In addition, such taps should be installed on heated towel rails (exception - electrical devices for drying towels).
Outwardly, the valves (ordinary and automatic) may differ from each other, but they are united by one - the same principle of operation. The crane is a kind of conical rod, if it is completely twisted, it will close the hole.
Air valves made of steel or brass are made, as they are resistant to corrosion. The buyer can choose any crane you like. The main thing to pay attention to is the diameter of the thread from the outside. For each type of radiator, you need to choose a maevsky crane in size. Standard carving on the cone is 1 inch, 1/2 inch, for cast -iron radiators of the old -sample are used taps with a small thread - 3/4 inches. Now such air valves are used for modern floor radiators and multi -row batteries "Chord".
When buying, pay attention to the following: Maevsky’s taps can be ordinary and automatic.
Craft device
The air valve is simply arranged - it consists of a case and a cone -shaped screw, which is screwed inside. With a low rate of water supply or insufficient volume (when people drain water from heating batteries in winter for personal needs), air accumulates in the system. As a result, the batteries are poorly heated, the temperature decreases in the room.
Maevsky’s crane can be opened manually without the use of a special tool (it depends on the valve model), screwdriver or key.
How to "steal" air from the system:
- Prepare a rag and substitute a water bowl under the battery. So you will not spoil the floor.
- To release air, it is necessary to turn the crane by half the back of the time stroke and wait for the air to come out. If there are a lot of it, you can turn the tap a little more and wait.
- As soon as you open the crane, you will hear a characteristic hiss, this means that the air is smoothly freed from the heating system. Do not relax, as the air comes out quickly and water will begin to go along with it soon. As soon as she “goes”, it's time to tighten the crane, because the air has already come out.
Even a high school student will be able to cope with this work. The actions are simple: turned the crane, waited, closed.
If the system is installed for compulsory circulation (individual heating), then before proceeding with air sustaining, it is necessary to turn off the pump. If he continues to work, then it will not work to completely remove the air.
The Maevsky crane is considered a manual device designed for installation in centralized heating systems. If you have an autonomous heating or closed at home, then the automatic crane of Maevsky is best suited, which does not require a person - it works independently, removing excess air from the heating system. This is very convenient, since such a Maevsky crane will save people from constant control of water temperature in batteries and manually drainage.
Since the carving on the air valve for joining remains the same, corresponding to GOST of the Soviet era, you will easily install an automatic crane on any heating radiators, at least an old, at least a modern model.
To independently install a crane, you will not need special tools, as well as skills. Understanding how the heating system works, you easily cope with the task.
How to install a crane yourself
Before proceeding with the installation of the tap, the water must be drained from the system, unscrew the plug in the radiator (upper part) and install the tap on this place. If there is a valve installation on a centralized heating battery, it is best to mount a crane in the summer, when water is completely merged from the system.
Consider step by step how to mount a crane yourself:
- If we need to put the Mayevsky crane for cast -iron radiators, then we will have to work. It will be necessary to drill a hole at the top, in the plug itself, then make a thread and screw the tap.
- If you use a centralized heating, it is undesirable to install an automatic valve. Due to the fact that the water in the system is constantly circulating, it is gradually polluted, so the crane can be very clogged and you will have to constantly clean it. And if you consider that in large houses heating is often turned off, then the air forms quickly.
- Since hydraulic shocks often occur in the central system, it is worth considering the option of acquiring the "Omes" or "MS-140" crane, it withstands up to 15 atm and water temperature in the system up to +150 oWITH.
How to serve
Maevsky’s air crane is considered reliable, since for many years it has been working properly. When there are pollution in the system, large particles of garbage, a small hole in the crane can clog. Then the device must be freed from garbage, which accumulates inside or in plastic lining. This is easy to do by cleaning the hole with a needle or pin.
If you did everything right, and the battery does not heat up, then the radiator itself clogged. Then the help of a specialist is needed. It may be enough to just clean the battery. Be prepared for the fact that you can advise you to install a new heating radiator.
If the crane has become unusable, then it must be replaced. This requires a special tool - a gas or divorce key. You need to squeeze the battery plug and hold it, twist the crane.
How to operate correctly
These simple recommendations will help you learn more about how to properly operate the Maevsky crane so that it serves for many years:
- install the air valve only on the heating battery;
- sometimes, to serve the crane, one screwdriver will be not enough. Especially if the crane is located in an inaccessible place, for example, in a niche. Then it is worth thinking about acquiring a key;
- when you drop air, remember that there should not be open fire sources (for example, a fireplace) nearby or you work with a lit cigarette. Even the smallest spark is able to provoke a fire;
- do not hold the Maevsky crane in the open position, since your heating device can quickly become unusable;
- if you have not used the tap for a long time, then the thread can rust and it will be very difficult to unscrew it. You need to drop a little kerosene on the thread and wait 1-2 minutes. Now you can easily unscrew the thread. Only carefully so that the air begins to come out gradually.
What are the advantages of the crane of Maevsky
For the prevention of the heating system, you can use alternative devices. For example, install a ball valve. But still, the Maevsky crane will look profitable on the heating device, thanks to the ergonomic design.
Also, we do not forget that in an apartment building, if you do not have a Maevsky crane, there is a great risk of flooding of the premises located below. And these are spoiled nerves and extra expenses for compensation for damage. That is why it is worth purchasing and installing the maevsky crane. The cost of an air valve compared to property spoiled from the flood is minimal. The valve costs from about 20 to 60 rubles.
If you compare the usual valve with automatic, then the latter, although it looks beautiful, but due to dirty water, often clogs. Because of this, the crane may break and not work on time.
The advantage of the crane is also that it is a reliable and easy -to -use shut -off equipment. It can be installed on any batteries, since a sealing rubberized ring is supplied with the kit. You just need to correctly install the valve and from time to time rotate the screw in order to get rid of fanning.
It is important that if you live on the top floor, then the fate of the inhabitants of the whole riser depends on your actions. If you timely remove the air from the system, then all the inhabitants of the house or the riser will have hot batteries, and therefore heat in the house.
By installing the Maevsky crane in your apartment, you save funds for heating. With timely control of the temperature of the radiators, you will prevent their cooling, which means that the room will warm up evenly and you do not have to turn on the electrical heating devices to warm up in the cold.
