The advantages and arrangement of a gypsum cardboard box
A drywall box is a structure made of aluminum profile, sheathed with drywall. Such structures are installed on the ceiling or on the walls, to improve the hide of tap or ventilation communications. A variety of lamps are often built into a gypsum plasterboard box that perform the function of additional lighting.
The box on the ceiling looks like a multi -level ceiling. The only difference is that the design of the box does not apply to the main ceiling. The box on the ceiling is installed either around the entire perimeter or in the form of geometric shapes. The device of gypsum plasterboard on the ceiling will cost cheaper than the installation of a multi -level ceiling.
Advantages of installing a gypsum cardboard box:
- hiding the ceiling defects,
- the ability to hide the wiring and communication pipes,
- the installation of lighting devices helps in the general lighting device and gives the room sophistication,
- the ability to adjust the lighting and zoning of the room,
- a variety of figures and shapes of the box will make the room unique.

Choice of drywall for the device of the box
Gypsum cardboard is used to decorate the premises and consists of gypsum and a protective layer of paper. The paper helps drywall to be more elastic and protects gypsum from moisture and mechanical damage.
The type of drywall, used to install the box, depends on the place of installation of the box.
Varieties of drywall:
- URK is a standard drywall used for wall decoration, ceiling or for the formation of partitions, such drywall is suitable for rooms with low and medium humidity;
- DURK - drywall with a protective layer of moisture -resistant impregnation and antiseptic, such drywall is resistant to mold, fungus and moisture, are used in the decoration of the bathroom or room with high humidity;
- Glocon - the inner part of such drywall consists not only of gypsum, but also of fiberglass additives and mineral mixtures that make this material fireproof.
Recommendations for installing a gypsum cardboard box
1. A gypsum cardboard box is installed on a prepared surface. To do this, a number of preparatory work should be carried out, which include plastering and putting the surface.
2. An aluminum profile should be bought only in specialized stores. Follow the quality of the profile.
3. You should not use a cheap profile, since the design will not withstand the load and is deformed during operation.
4. Before installing drywall, the preparatory work related to electricity should be completed.
5. The sheets of drywall should be mounted on a pre -prepared frame.
How to make a gypsum cardboard box on the ceiling
1. Apply marking with a pencil and level. Draw a box design on the ceiling and nearest wall. When applying the markup, consider the length of the aluminum profile and drywall sheets.
2. Install the frame from the profile. In accordance with the marking lines, cut and fix the structure from the profile. For these purposes, use a punch. For the convenience of fastening, draw the contour of the box on the floor, and then move to the ceiling. Fasten the aluminum profile with self -tapping screws and spacer dowels. Be sure to check the evenness of the installation of the profile structure.
3. Installation of suspensions. Cut the suspensions using metal scissors according to the size of the box. Fix the suspensions on structures from guide profiles. The guides should be at the same level with the entire structure.
4. Install the wiring for lamps. Mark and fix the wires.
5. Fix the transverse guides, having previously cut them. The minimum interval between the guides is 1 m. The fixing of the guides is carried out using self -tapping screws and screwdrivers.
6. Cut the necessary parts from drywall. First, fix the drywall on the lower part of the structure, and then on all the others. Make holes for lamps.
7. Fasten the structure using self -tapping screws.
After installing the plasterboard box, finishing work follows. Speech putting is a very important decoration process that will determine the appearance of the box.
Work tools:
- spatula 5 cm,
- spatula 20 cm,
- perforated painting corner,
- large and small mesh.
Using two spatulas, apply a putty layer to the surface of the box. A small spatula helps put a putty, and large - distributes the mixture over the surface.
Gently press the spatula to the plasterboard surface and remove the excess of the putty mixture. To form even corners, use the painting corner. The corner is fixed by applying putty on the verge.
The initial putty process is carried out by the starting putty, and the final one is finished. Choose a putty from one manufacturer to avoid relaxation of putty.
After the putty dries, the surface should be aligned first with a large and then fine mesh. To make the surface perfectly even use special milk.
If necessary, paint the box in the desired color and mount the lamps.
Recommendations for the manufacture of a box in a bathroom made of drywall
A gypsum cardboard box is installed in the bathroom in order to hide pipes or other communications.
For the manufacture of the box, an aluminum profile and moisture resistant drywall will be needed.
Consider the option of making a drywall box that hides a pipe passing in the corner of the bathroom.
The installation of the box begins with the formation of the frame, which consists of three axes made of aluminum profile.
This box resembles a design in the form of a rectangular triangle with absolutely even sides.
1. First you should make markings and measure the sides of the box.
2. Two axes close to the wall should be fixed using dowels and screws, and the central axis is attached to the side walls or to the other two axes.
3. After the frame is ready, you should check the evenness of the structure using the level.
4. Measure the edges of the box and cut the blanks made of drywall.
5. Attach the parts using self -tapping screws to the frame.
6. Such a box is suitable for hiding both horizontal and vertical pipes.
Tip: If pipes or other communications in the bathroom do not touch the wall, use four -sided cladding with drywall, which is carried out according to the same principle. Provide in the device of the box of the hatch, which will provide quick access to communications.
Tips for making a gypsum cardboard box with your own hands
- the installation of the box in the bathroom is carried out so that this element is not an obstacle when accessing communications;
- self -tapping screws are attached closer to the edge of the wall to make it easier to install the tile;
- do not close the screws with tiles, leave a small gap on which install the skirting board, this method will help to easily disassemble the structure;
- leave a few centimeters at the bottom of the box not closed in order to notice a leak of water in time;
- to make the box more durable, install ceramic tiles that will not load the design of the box;
- to install the tile, use glue plate glue.
Installation of a gypsum cardboard backlight
For work, the availability of:
- CD, UD profiles;
- dowels with screws;
- self -tapping screws with a bureau of the margin;
- self -tapping screws L 25;
- drywall;
- swed grids;
- primers;
- perforated corner;
- putty;
- vodomulsionic paint.
Start working with the installation of an aluminum UD profile. This profile will show the outline of the future design.
This stage allows you to adjust the design. Install the following profiles, observing a distance of 0.4 or 0.6 m. The interval between the profiles depends on the load on the box. With large sizes of the design, reduce the interval, and with small ones, increase.
Install the wiring: take the wires to the location of the lamps, check the correct installation of electric wires. Install a corrugated sleeve in which the wiring will be located.
Remove the measurements from the profile frame. Cut plasterboard blanks and attach them to the box. The distance between the mounting places is about 14 cm.
After completing the casing of the box, hide the wiring to proceed with the finishing work.
When putting the box, first install the perforated corners with a stapler or putty. When putting down, use a grid that will not allow to crack the structure.
After all the joints and seams are knocked out, proceed to the decoration of the entire box.
After the last layer of putty completely dried, sand the surface with a small grid.
Grind the surface with the help of a deep penetration soil.
After 24 hours, when the primer dries, proceed to staining the surface with water -based paint. Apply paint in two, three layers. Using a brush, paint the corners and inaccessible places, and use the roller to stain even surfaces.
When the paint is finally dried, using a mounting knife or drill with a special nozzle, cut holes for lamps and install lighting devices.
