The laminate is considered a rather wear-resistant material, however, on its surface over time or due to improper operation, various damage may appear-scratches, swelling, chips, cracks, etc. In addition, defects may occur as a result of improper laying of the coating or in the case of acquisition of poor -quality materials. Next, we will talk about how to remove scratches on the laminate without damaging the appearance of the coating.

Scratches on the laminate: how to avoid damage
As mentioned above, the laminate is resistant to scratches, however, with improper operation or in case of violation of styling methods, various mechanical and other damage are possible. In order to extend the “life” of the coating, there are several simple rules:
- First of all, all the legs of the furniture should be sheathed from below with felt so that they do not damage laminating strips when moving.
- It is also worthwhile to carefully examine the sole of indoor slippers so that various sharp sorcerers are not glued to it that can scratch the coating.
- And, most importantly, you need to choose the right means to clean the laminate. They should not contain abrasive elements.
Do not immediately dismantle the coating, but you can try to return it to the original appearance using available means. The only thing that the damaged planks can not do if the scratches are very deep.
Elimination of deep scratches on a laminate using a wax small
Before starting the repair of the laminate by any means, you should consult a specialists whether it is suitable in your case. After all, there are no universal means applicable and suitable for absolutely all scratches. So, initially you need to thoroughly inspect the damaged area, and then only choose what to smear the scratches on the laminate. The easiest option for eliminating shallow chips and scratches is the use of wax crayons.
To do this, we need the following materials and tools:
- Wax crayon.
- Vacuum cleaner.
- A medium -sized spatula.
- Dry fabric.
Work order:
- Buy a little thing for a laminate at any construction store. They are usually produced in the form of a pencil. Keep in mind that crayons are of different colors, so try to choose the one that most in shade approaches the tone of the existing laminate coating.
- To begin with, read the instructions that are attached to the product, and make sure that it is suitable for the existing type of coating. If all materials and tools are selected correctly, then the process of repairing laminate boards itself will take no more than 10-20 minutes.
- Pre -clean the surface with a vacuum cleaner. It is important that the cracks of various garbage are well cleared.
- Love each scratch with a wax pencil for a laminate from scratches. Remove excess wax from the surface with a dry rag. Next, where work was carried out, you need to polish well.
In addition to the small and putty, there is also a polish for the laminate from scratches. However, it is suitable only if the damage is shallow.
Deep scratch on the laminate: how to eliminate
The method using a wax small is not always applicable if the scratch on the laminate is very deep. To seal such a gap, you can use a special putty that is sold in any construction store and is included in the kit for the repair of laminate coating. Keep in mind that such mixtures are similar in color and shade. Therefore, as a sample, it is better to take one of the laminate strips with you.
When the mixture is bought, you can do laminate repair. This process is somewhat similar to the methodology of blocking scratches using a wax small.
To do this, we need the following materials and tools:
- Flotes for cracks.
- Vacuum cleaner.
- A medium -sized spatula.
- Dry fabric.
Work order:
- Clean the surface with a vacuum cleaner. Clean the cracks of various garbage well.
- Using a spatula, apply the mixture to the existing scratch.
- Remove an excess of putty with a dry clean rag.
- Give the applied mixture to freeze.
Classes repair on the laminate
Sometimes the above funds (crayons and putty) do not help eliminate too deep scratches. In this case, repair and replacement of parquet planks are required. This work can even a person who does not have carpentry skills. Next, we will tell you more about the process of replacing laminated planks.
Tools and materials:
- New laminate strips.
- Dawed for cutting.
- Clay composition.
- Roulette for measurements.
- Vacuum cleaner.
- Hammer.
Work order:
- Initially, damaged laminate strips should be removed. You should start with the one that is located closest to the baseboard. When cutting boards, you need to use protective glasses and gloves.
- We dismantle the skirting board. Then we alternately remove the stands located nearby. We do this until we get to the problem area. For the convenience of extracting the strips, they can be initially raised at an angle of 45 degrees. After that, they can easily be removed. Please note that when performing dismantling work, it is important not to damage the material, because after replacing the damaged bar, all other boards will be laid back to their “native” place.
- Before replacing the bar, well clean the site for work. This will require a vacuum cleaner. It is important to remove any existing building garbage and dust.
- To replace, use planks only of the laminate brand that has been laid earlier. This is necessary so that all the flooring elements are uniform and do not differ among themselves.
- After the deformed bar has been replaced, the old strips should be laid in the same sequence in which they were extracted.
- We set the skirting board in its place.
Reading of scratches on the laminate
There is another way to replace damaged laminate strips. This will require a circular saw. About how to restore laminate from scratches in this way, we will tell further:
- In order to gently extract the damaged bar and at the same time not to deform the neighboring boards, some recommendations should be adhere to. So, drill small holes at the corners of the spoiled boards. The holes should be located at a distance of 1 cm from the edge of the bar. Next, drill holes with a step of 20 cm along the horizontal sides of the material.
- Designate with a pencil or marker an even line that will interconnect all the available holes. On these lines, then you will cut a circular saw. However, pre -set the correct cutting mode so that the incision does not turn out to be too deep and does not damage the base of the floor.
- Carefully cut the material on the indicated lines. In the corners of the bar where the saw will not get, the incision can be finished using an ordinary sharp knife.
- Pend the damaged board from below and carefully remove it.
- After removing the bar, it is necessary to clean the working surface from dust and construction waste using a vacuum cleaner.
- Lay a new laminate bar in the formed gap. To fix it, use a special glue.
- Remove the excess glue with a clean rag. Then put any load on top of the glued bar on top, which allows to fix the material in the right position. Then wait a few hours so that the glue froze.
Removing the gaps between laminate strips
In addition to scratches on the laminate as a result of a violation of the development process, other defects may appear, for example, cracks between laminate strips. Very often, such damage also appears as a result of changes in temperature and humidity in the room where the laminate is lined. Such gaps not only spoil the aesthetic appearance of the entire flooring, but also harm it.
In order to prevent the occurrence of cracks between the laminate strips, you should adhere to some recommendations for the operation and laying of the material:
- First of all, before laying the flooring, let it go through the acclimatization period in the room in which it will be laid. It is believed that the laminate should lie down in the unpacked form in the room for at least two days.
- In addition, when laying a laminate, make sure that the base of the floor does not have differences, otherwise cracks and cracks will form in these places. Today, when installing this type of coating, a special substrate is used, the thickness of which is about 3-5 mm. It is able to remove small irregularities of the surface. It is lined on the base of the floor, and then laminated bar is directly laid.
- During the installation of the laminate, it is important to properly connect the bar among themselves. Make sure that the locks on the boards are in good condition, without defects. Only high -quality locks can provide good adhesion of the planks among themselves.
- Follow the temperature and humidity indicators in the room. If moisture came to the laminate, try to remove it as soon as possible.
- During the cleaning of the room, do not use ordinary water or soap solution. There are special solutions to clean the laminate. They clean the dirt well and at the same time do not damage the coating.
If the gaps are still formed, then there are several solutions to the following problem:
- They can be eliminated using a special putty containing a wood filler. This method is suitable if the cracks are small.
- You can replace laminate strips that are damaged.
- If the gaps are small, then you can smear the locks between the strips with glue so that they are better to hold together. However, keep in mind that when installing a laminate, the glued strips cannot be disassembled without their fault.
- If defects cannot be eliminated using the first three methods, then you can completely disassemble and dismantle the flooring.
