How to make a stepladder with your own hands

Materials and blanks for ladders

Assembly of the stairs-strip

When all the preparations of the details are made, you can start assembling the ladder:

1. The carpentry glue needs to smear the ends of the steps and insert them into the supports, hammer it with a hammer.
2. Insert the knitting needles under the steps and fix them with nuts and bolts.
3. Cut the protruding parts of the plates connecting the staircase. In the center of the wide part of the plate you need to drill holes and through them every two plates should be fixed with a nut. Then drill the plates where it will be attached to the stairs. To accurately guess the location of the fasteners, you need to attach the plates to the supports and make markings. The plates are attached at the top on the legs.
4. In order for the stairs to not part to the sides, its parts are tied with a chain or lace, the ends are fixed with bolts and nuts.
5. If you collect a stepladder with your own hands, then create it one that would be convenient for you. At the top, for example, you can attach hooks for a bucket. You can also make a segment from a plastic pipe and fix it with self -tapping screws on the stairs, and you can add the necessary tool there.

Making a transformer ladder

1. Before starting construction, you need to sketch a drawing of a stepladder. It will need to accurately calculate how many materials you need to create a stairs.
2. A transformer ladder can be made from a steel or duralumin tube with thick walls and three centimeters in diameter, 2 and 1.5 meters long. This length will turn out to be a ladder itself. For steps, you can use the same pipe, it will need an eye of three meters. The whole structure is assembled using a welding machine and a bolt screed.
3. To connect with bolts, it is necessary along the entire length of the stairs to make through holes on the pipe, the distance between them, the same as from the end of 30 cm. On the pipe for steps you need to drill holes with a similar distance, retreating from the edge of 1.5 cm.
4. To combine all parts together, you need to make two clamps. On steel stripes, retreating 1.5 cm from the end, make holes and bend.
5. Make couplings closed oval shape. And cook the ends. Attach the clamps on the fifth step, starting from the floor.
6. Drill through holes 1.5 cm from the end on the opposite sides of the pipe. Put on the couplings, insert the clamps in the ends, fix it with bolts.
7. To assemble the crossbars, for this, rubber tips are fixed on the legs, you can use plastic covers for this purpose. In order for the sides of the stairs to not part, you need to install the hinges for the fasteners of the wire hook.
8. To transform a two -meter staircase into a three -meter, you need to remove the hook, and turn the supporting part upwards on the hinges. The couplings will give the fastening of hardness, they are put on the ends of the 2-meter pipe. If all the work is done correctly, then such a transformer staircase can withstand a weight of about a hundred kilograms.

Such a ladder is not inferior to ordinary aluminum, on the contrary, it can be constantly modified, for example, reduced the number of steps or change the shape of their fasteners.

Testing the stepladder

Before using a ladder created by your own hands in work, it must be carefully tested with cargo. This is necessary:

1. Put the stairs on a flat surface, hang the load on the step of the middle part. If there are several knees in a stepladder, then each knee passes the test separately, in turn. If the second knee is needed only for the stop, then it can be hung on it with a smaller load in weight. The load is hung in the back of the knee for each bowstring.
2. It is good to inspect the staircase for defects or flaws.

One of the general requirements for working with a ladder is to check the stability of the base and support at the top of the structure.
