A rocking chair in the house is a symbol of comfort. It is pleasant to relax in it, to read the book. There is a large selection of such seats for a home or for an office: light and elegant rattan, respectable wooden leather. But it is only appropriate in the house, and in the garden there is a place for a home-made rocking chair. To make a rocking chair with your own hands is not a very difficult task, but by putting it in the shade under a tree, you can relax in it after summerary work.

Material for a rocking chair
A rocking chair for use outside the house is made:
- made of wood;
- from plywood;
- metal frame and sheathed with wood.
What should not be done is to sheathe such a chair with a cloth, once in the rain, the finish will lose its appearance.
Consider the option of manufacturing a rocker chair from plywood.
We make a rocking chair from plywood
The rocking chair drawings you see is made of plywood:
What is needed for its manufacture?
Tool
To work in pleasure, stock up on the tool in advance, namely:
- electrician;
- disk grinding machine;
- screwdriver;
- roulette;
- drills for wood;
- a square with a long measured ruler;
- pencil;
- brushes.
We get the material
The best material is:
- larch;
- spruce or pine;
- oak.
But they are expensive, and it is difficult to process an oak with a larch, so let's dwell on a faner, which, due to its plasticity, is easily processed and is less. We buy:
- sheet plywood 30 mm thick. Suitable for the sheet size 1.52x0.8 m;
- self -tapping screws and confirmation;
- the glue is carpentry;
- bars 5x2.5 cm.
Of these materials, we will make a rocking chair, the photo of which is demonstrated below.
Design
In order not to do a large stock of firewood for yourself at a high price, before cutting the blanks for the rocking chair, make a drawing and indicate all sizes. You can also use the services of search engines on the Internet and download the finished, you like the drawing. For independent drawing, use the following tips:
- it will require millimeter paper to fit the assembly drawing and details in a 1: 1 scale;
- we transfer the drawings of parts to the plywood sheet, observing accuracy. We make cut in such a way that the waste is as little as possible;
- we cut out the parts using an electric jigsaw and milling mill. At the same time, we make holes for fasteners on the details;
- the grinding machine is cleaned with the table.
You can go along the other way:
- we take dense cardboard;
- we draw a grid on it like the one that is available on millimeter paper;
- we draw the necessary elements;
- cut the drawn. You will get patterns that we use to transfer the outlines of future products to plywood.
We make side parts
In the manufacture of side parts, which in shape resemble a boomerang, we perform the following:
- we put a template on a whole sheet of plywood and circle its outline;
- we take a jigsaw and cut out the workpiece;
- with a grinding machine, we process the cut lines;
- we act in the same way with the second sidewall.
Notice: If you plan to make a rocking chair in the form of a sofa, so that 2 people fit on it, you will have to prepare 3 sides: one will be located in the center and 2 on the sides.
Brushes are supportive
Broaches are needed to fasten the back, therefore:
- marking for them on the sidewalls should be performed very accurately. Before they are drilled, we make accurate measurements;
- we have holes in the center of the sidewalls;
- for fastening, we use carpentry and confirmation glue.
We fix the bar
We will attach each bar for a couple of bars:
- start from the upper bar and fix it with self -tapping screws;
- according to the same scheme, we mount the remaining details. The frame is made. It remains only to treat the product with an antiseptic, let dry, cover with stain and varnish or paint, as well as mask the confirmation hats with plugs selected to the color of the tree.
About such a rocking chair, reviews from your family and guests will be the most enthusiastic.
Note: For a rocking chair, you can make a foam mattress and overtake the structure with dermatin.
How to make a rocking chair made of wood
If you prefer solidity in everything, then for the manufacture of furniture a rocking chair, use a tree both in its pure form and in combination with metal. The technology for manufacturing a wooden rocking chair is the same as in the manufacture of it from plywood, but there are also its own characteristics:
- when choosing the material, do not take the boards on which knots are observed;
- wet wood is not suitable.
Consider an example of the manufacture of rocking chairs made of wood of a simple structure.
Material
For lateral structures, you must stock up:
- rectangular cross -section with 3x3 or 3x6 cm;
- the sides of the seats have an L-shaped shape and for them it will require boards with a cross section of 2x9 cm in an amount of 4 pcs.
We make markings
If you have a radial-cutting machine, then on it you can very simply mark the connection of the parts of the rocking chair in the spoon:
- first, we cut out, using the patterns, an armrest, vertical racks, one runner;
- we lay out the blanks on a flat plane and outline the places where they will be interconnected;
- on a radial-dosage machine in these places we make cuts with a depth of 1/2 of the thickness of the bars;
- using a bite, remove the excess.
Powders
The responsible detail of the rocking chair made of wood is the runner. If they are done incorrectly, then you can overturn with your chair. Experts advise:
- the curvature on the back is made a little noticeable. This increases stability;
- ahead on the runners, its radius is larger and the front itself is a little shorter. All this is done using a strip saw;
- since vertical racks are attached along the edges, such a thickness is selected that strength is not disturbed at the junction;
- curved surfaces are carefully polished;
- a test is carried out by swinging the runners on a flat plane. If somewhere swaying is not paid, grinds again.
Assembly of lateral structures
At this stage, we have parts for assembling the side structures of the rocking chair:
- armrests;
- vertical racks;
- powders.
That's why:
- we glue them with each other;
- we clamp the places where glue was applied with clamps;
- leave the glue until the glue;
- we cut the speaker and frozen glue with a knife;
- grind with sandpaper.
What to sit on
We place boards in the seat at such an angle to provide a comfortable stay in the chair. So:
- we mark the boards;
- wash at an angle a little more than 90 degrees;
- the seat consists of 2 L-shaped frames made of boards and pipe pipe. Where the details are in contact, we connect them;
- next, it is necessary to fix the tubes from cardboard, and for this you need holes in the L-shaped frames. Planting the tubes should be quite dense, so the holes are performed by the same diameter as the tubes;
- pour glue and pipe into the finished holes. Their entry into the hole is 20 mm on each side. We drive the tubes first into one frame, and then into another and pull it all together.
Final assembly
Now we came close to the most difficult and responsible stage - the assembly of the product. We perform it like this:
- temporarily collect a rocking chair made of wood using clamps;
- we mark the points where the A-shaped side frame is in contact with the seat;
- we remove the clamps and transfer these points to the second side structure;
- we drill the holes through these points;
- to enter nuts and washers, we perform chamfers under them;
- again we need clamps to determine the line of contact of the seats with the side parts;
- we drill holes along this line. In this case, the drill enters the cardboard tubes;
- through the holes, insert metal rods with chopped thread into the tubes, they will harden the structure. Previously, the hole in the frame and the passage in the tube is lubricated with glue;
- if the rod protrudes, cut it flush with the frame;
- dressing the washers, we tighten the nuts with the key on both sides at the same time;
- we also tighten the side structures with metal rods, fixing them with locking nuts.
Design
The rocking chair is ready, it remains only to give him a beautiful look. For this:
- we take sandpaper and eliminate all the irregularities;
- if there are hollows that are not eliminated with emery, then we eliminate them by applying carpentry putty;
- the putty will dry out and again the emphasis is required;
- we cover the chair with a primer, after drying, grind and repeat the procedure again;
- we apply varnish in several layers.
Everything, the task is completed: a rocking chair, the price of which is many times less than purchased, is ready. They are no worse than this one made by professionals:
