How to glue wallpaper on the walls with your own hands
Let's start with the basic rules for gluing wallpaper. In order for the work to look as neat as possible, you need to try and prepare everything you need.
So, for work we will need such materials and tools:
- wallpaper;
- glue;
- rubber roller for rolling seams;
- ladder (if you are going to glue the wallpaper on the ceiling);
- plumb line;
- pencil and ruler;
- sharp clerical knife;
- spatula;
- glue roller;
- adhesive capacity;
- a rag to remove excess glue.
Now you need to prepare the surface. If you bought an apartment in a new building or recently built a house, then the walls are likely to be porous, so you must definitely cover them with a primer. Do not forget to pause and wait for the walls to dry. Now you can start work.
Another question is if there are paint or old wallpapers on the walls. Then you first need to clean the paint, then treat the surface with a special tool, and then wash off the product with water. Wait when the wall dries to apply a primer layer. If the walls are covered with glossy paint, you will have to try to clean the paint. Arm yourself with a construction hairdryer, a hard brush or use a grinding.
Removing old wallpapers from the wall is quite simple, tickle the edge of the wallpaper with a spatula and pull on yourself. If it is difficult to remove the old coating from the surface, then a special solution is applied to the walls (sold in construction stores), a certain time is maintained and after that you can start preparing the walls. Or you can do this: moisten the areas with hot water, where the wallpaper is tightly glued, and then carefully remove the wallpaper from the wall, armed with a narrow spatula. Work carefully so as not to damage the surface.
By the way, those areas where there are differences, chips and cracks, you will have to plow it. This moves away the main point - gluing wallpaper, but the final result will please and the wallpaper will stay on the walls for a long time. Do not forget after the scuttled areas dry out, clean these places with a grinding skin. Before starting to lay the walls with wallpaper, make sure that the surface is smooth, clean and dry.
Preparatory moments:
- Lay out all the rolls of the wallpaper designed to stick one room. You need to compare each roll so that the color of the picture does not differ.
- Now you can start cooking glue. The glue is sold in dry form and it must be prepared independently. We knead the glue according to the rules (as indicated in the instructions) and wait for it to become homogeneous.
- We proceed to gluing wallpaper. To do this, you need to arm yourself with a construction meter and measure the length of the wall (we do not take into account the baseboard).
- Next, we need to deploy the wallpaper roll and measure this length on paper, plus 7-10 cm we leave for a reserve (this is mandatory, it is better to cut off the extra than to finish the strips of wallpaper).
- Now we draw on the wallpaper using a pencil and line line (you can simply wrap the paper) and cut off the strip with a sharp knife.
- If you have chosen wallpaper without a drawing, then you can immediately prepare several lanes so as not to be distracted and proceed to the wallpaper laying process. If you purchased wallpaper with a pattern, then you will have to spend more time on preparation. First, we cut off the first strip of wallpaper from the beginning of the roll, and then we unwind the second roll of wallpaper and select the pattern, combining the canvas until the pattern coincides. After you prepare several lanes, you can start gluing wallpaper.
- Not everyone knows that it is necessary to start gluing wallpaper from the lightest section of the room, that is, from the window. We continue the process of gluing the next strip counterclockwise. We stick the last strip at the window, but from the opposite side.
Rules for cutting wallpaper
Consider all the options so as not to look for answers to questions:
- We cut the wallpaper without a pattern-if the maximum height of the walls is 2 m 65 cm, then we need to cut the stripes of 2 m 66-67 cm to leave a small supply. Roll the wallpaper roll and cut off the strip of the desired length along the front side. We cut the next strip from the same roll.
- Open the wallpaper with the selection of the pattern without displacement of the stripes. Such wallpaper is a little more difficult to cut. For example, if the height of your ceilings is 2 m 67 cm, then you must first decide on the step pitch on the canvas. We need all the chopped strips to begin with the same pattern. First we select one strip, and then another to it, so that the drawing coincides, but already from the new roll. Next, we work with two rolls. The remainder from each strip should be minimal, since the pattern on the paper canvas is small and the stripes will not have to be displaced.
- The situation is different with the wallpaper on which you need to combine the pattern or large drawing. If you cut off one strip of the desired length, then you can find that the next strip is not suitable, so you need to step back in to combine both strips. For the convenience of work, you can designate two rolls of wallpaper: No. 1 - the first roll, No. 2 - the second. We begin to work with the first roll, after the sticker the starting strip, we cut off the next strip from the new roll (No. 2), adjust the pattern (less waste). It is more convenient to work and combine the picture. You can on the wall so as not to get confused, mark the stripes with a pencil.
How to glue wallpaper with the selection of a picture
You can stick the wallpaper without calculating anything, that is, to alleviate your task. Just open a new roll of wallpaper, unwind the strip, measure the desired length and glue it on the wall (or ceiling). Next, we look at the drawing and select it, unwinding the wounded roll of wallpaper. So it can be faster to work, but the wallpaper consumption will be too large. Imagine that you will have 1.5 m of unnecessary wallpapers from each roll. Why such a large consumption of finishing material?
You can do otherwise and try to pick up the pattern not in place, but on the floor. To do this, we unwind both rolls and select the drawing, displacing one of the stripes until the picture coincides. The method is acceptable, but do not forget about the mirror reflection of the picture (applies not only to ceilings, but also to walls). It is important to imagine a pattern on a wall or ceiling in a finished form, where it begins and whether it turns out beautifully.
The described methods for selecting a drawing for wallpaper pasting are suitable for all types of paper wallpaper, on vinyl and non -woven basis.
We glue non -hands non -hands
Wallpaper on non -woven is a modern material for wall decoration, which has a high degree of wear resistance. Wallpapers in rolls are sold, 1 m wide. It is very convenient to stick them, since it is not necessary to prepare the walls first. Small irregularities on the pasted surface are burnt by thick non -woven wallpaper.
We will glue the wallpaper with our own hands in the joint, for starters we will prepare stripes of wallpaper for the whole room. Since we need to dock the drawing, our task is a little more complicated. Before proceeding to cutting the strips, we measure the height of the wall in several places (ideally-every 30-40 cm). If there are no discrepancies, then you can start cutting the wallpaper of the desired length.
Have you bought wallpaper with a large pattern? Then you need to approach the cutting process with all responsibility. We look at the label: the manufacturer indicates the size of the fitting according to the picture. To combine the picture, you must immediately open 2 rolls of wallpaper and shift the next lane on the first workpiece (or measure the distance indicated on the label). Be careful so that later you do not have to finish the wallpaper below (if there is not enough strip length or you incorrectly combined the canvases according to the figure).
There are certain rules that you need to adhere to: if the ceiling height is standard - 2.5 m, then the length of the strips should be with a margin - 2.88 m, then the fitting size will be 48 cm.
The stripes can be cut directly on the floor (prepare a place in advance or lay a dense polyethylene on the floor). We roll the roll of wallpaper with the front part up to combine the drawing and cut off the strip equal to 2 m 88 cm (there is already a supply). We go over the strip so that the canvases coincide and cut the wallpaper along the fold line of the bend with a sharp knife. We have the first strip. Now you need to deploy a new roll of wallpaper and combine the drawing. We do not hasten to cut off the second strip, move away to evaluate the correctness of combination visually. Everything is fine? You can cut off the strip and start gluing wallpaper.
The roll must be rolled out only on one side, then you can make several blanks at once.
The peculiarity of working with non -woven wallpaper is that glue does not need to be applied to wallpaper, only to the wall. Armed with a roller, distribute the glue on the surface of the wall with an uniform layer, capturing a little more than 1 m so that the joints of the wallpaper stick well.
After gluing the first strip, the rest of the wallpaper can be cut off with a sharp knife. Try to do this work as accurately as possible.

We glue vinyl wallpaper with our own hands
Glue vinyl wallpaper should be in the same way as non -woven. The only difference is that the basis of vinyl wallpaper is thinner than the wallpaper on the non -woven, so you need to pay more attention to the preparation of the walls.
Subtleties of the work process:
- we make measurements of the room and cut the stripes of wallpaper equal to the length of the walls plus a supply of 7-10 cm;
- prepare glue (for vinyl wallpaper you need to buy a special glue);
- we spread the glue on the ceiling/wall with a foam rubber roller, and also smear the carefully cut strip of wallpaper;
- we are waiting for the glue to absorb;
- armed with the building level, we make marks on the wall with a pencil so as not to go beyond the line and stick exactly the strip;
- glue the strip to the wall, well iron the canvas to release air. We pass along the entire surface of the glued canvas with a rubber roller to drive out air: from the middle to the edges, from the middle up and down;
- glue the next strip in a similar way, the joint in the joint;
- if you hastened and pasted the canvas, and then noticed that air bubbles formed under the wallpaper, it is necessary to walk through this place with a rubber roller. If it does not help, then you need to pierce the place of bloating with a needle, and then inject a little glue there (we type in a syringe). It remains only to smooth the surface and make sure that the wallpaper sticks well.
Which wallpaper is easiest to glue? You will not find an unambiguous answer to this question, many masters dwell on the choice of non -woven wallpaper, some like the Soviet version - simple paper, but there are people who want to make a highlight and allocate a separate site and stick other wallpaper. For example, wallpaper on an adhesive basis or murals.
Using photo wallpaper, you can decorate any room. Due to the fact that the adhesive composition is applied to the back of the canvas, it is a pleasure to work with such material. You do not need to prepare glue in advance and mess with brushes and rollers, you can add a highlight to the interior of the room in just a few hours.
A glue -based wallpaper can be of different sizes, plain and with a pattern. To combine the pattern on the wall, you need to be extremely careful and neat, because if you disconnect the protective film and glue the canvas to the wall, and then find that the pattern is not compatible, it will be very difficult to peel off the strip.
This type of finishing material has a lot of advantages: strength, huge selection, ease of gluing. You can change the interior in the children's room or bedroom every six months.
