Tapestry is a great option for decorating a house. Pictures made in this technique fascinate the eye. Machine -made tapestries are very much inferior to tapestries made manually. But, alas, they are very, very expensive.   It is much cheaper to make tapestries with your own hands.  In addition, such a solution will allow the most harmoniously to enter the tapestry into the interior of the room.

The history of the emergence of the tapestry

Tapestry is a one -sided carpet, woven manually by cross -interweaving with threads. The word tapestry itself has French roots. In the XVI century, Gilleni Gillene opened the dye.   Later, a weaving factory was added to her. Louis XIV bought this factory and began mass production of carpets from painted threads.   The factory was called the Royal Tapestry Manufacture, and the carpets - tapestries.

This is not to say that the tapestries appeared in the 16th century. Back in the 3rd century. BC The first samples of tapestries were found. In ancient Greece and Egypt, the palaces of pharaohs and state rulers were decorated with tapestries. Masters for the manufacture of tapestry used only natural threads, sometimes inserts of gold and silver were practiced.

The Renaissance is dawn in the dawn of the tapestries. Masters made whole rows of paintings made in the same theme. Only aristocrats allowed themselves such a luxury. Until the 18th century, wool was used as a material for the manufacture of tapestry. A little later they began to make tapestries from silk and flax. Now the tapestries are weaves both from synthetic threads and from natural ones.

For the production of the earliest tapestries, a wooden frame was used, on which the threads and a special hook were pulled, which allowed to reliably fix the nodes.

From the middle of the twentieth century, weaving machines appear that simplify work on tapestries. The tapestries are made in the machine way have a lower price and quality compared to manual tapestry.

Varieties of tapestries

Handmade tapestries are divided into:

  • woven,
  • non -woven.

Woven tapestry is more complicated in manufacture. A thread-base of cotton thread is wound on a wooden frame. For consolidation, a sumach node is used. The tireless thread is intertwined with the main thread over the entire width of the carpet, thus connecting and fixing the main threads among themselves. The process of the manufacture of woven tapestry is a wound of a tireless thread through the main one, while using a wide variety of techniques and nodes.

The loop or non -woven tapestry is lighter. A drawing is applied to a dense piece of fabric, and with a needle it is stitched with woolen or synthetic threads.

Fabric manufacturing technology

For the manufacture of woven mini-gobeline, you will need:

  • threads - various colors and textures,
  • wooden frame or weaving mini-station,
  • fork,
  • scissors.

Stages of work:

  • First, take a wooden frame or board. 2 times the size of the length and 3 times in height than the future tapestry. On the edges of the frame we clog nails. Distance 2-5 mm, depending on the thickness of the threads.
  • We make a thread-Osnov. On the nails, we alternately wrap the thread. Next, horizontally fix the tireless thread, using a nodule. We begin to weave the tapestry. Changing the threads, depending on the desired pattern. The fork will help to compact the structure of the tapestry. At the end, the tapestry is ennobled with fringe, pigtails or a brush.
  • To make brushes for decorating the edges of the tapestry, you need to fold 4-6 threads in half, tie the thread and attach to the edge of the tapestry, using any node.
  • For fringe, cut the threads twice as much as the required fringe should be cut.   These pieces of yarn are attached to the end of the tapestry with a knitting hook or needle. If desired, the fringe is decorated with beads.

Ways to weave threads in the manufacture of tapestry:

  • Linen is the most common way of weaving. An inquiring thread is passed through the main one through one.
  • Patriotic -forming - an inquiring thread is made of wool, each thread is wrapped around the main twice.
  • Sarzhevoy - an inquiring thread is laid only between odd basic threads.
  • Egyptian - from right to left, we braid the main thread with an inquiring, and then an inquiring thread goes down. It turns out the texture in the form of columns. Well suited for depicting embossed objects.
  • The Greek method is used in combination with smooth weaving, because it is very loose in itself. Use bright and voluminous threads. Overweight threads are intertwined in the form of a braid.
  • Blining - woolen threads are laid from right to left. The first row with a lap with a linen method, then an inadquiped thread is started for the main one and a loop is created, through which an inquisitive thread is removed. A relief surface resembles weaving.
  • Sumakhovy - two main threads are wrapped in tireless twice from the inside out and are excreted through two main threads forward.   The texture of the columns is created.
  • Carpet-an inquiring thread is cut into small pieces of 4-6 cm. We apply such a segment in the middle in two main threads, and wrap the ends. After one such row, a series of linen weaving should be performed. Excess piles are cut and weaving is given the desired shape.

Methods of connecting an inquiring thread among themselves:

  • To create a clear boundary of the drawing, the connection of the tireless thread is used, in which weaving the desired color is brought to the border, and then interconnected, continuing weaving.
  • A method is possible when the main thread lies on the boundary of the interweaving of two colors. The base of the foundations is laid to the border, and then bend and weave back and so on. On the other hand, the talious thread of a different color is also laid.
  • The transmit is used to obtain a clear and flat line. At the same time, the inquiring threads are not connected at all and a gap is formed between them. This method is rarely used, since the cracks between different colors have to be sewn up with ordinary threads.
  • The method of compensated compound - the inquiring threads are interconnected and smoothly move from one color to another.

Another type of woven tapestry is a circular tapestry, which is used as a rug or hung on a wall. A circular tapestry differs from a rectangular shape and the technique of captivity. In a rectangular tapestry, the capture is made from the bottom up, and in a circle in a circle. For a circular support, even a gymnastic hoop is used, or a circle of dense material is cut out.

For the manufacture of circular tapestry at home, you will need:

  1. Cardboard.
  2. Yarn for knitting and cotton threads. Necessarily of different colors and structures.
  3. A thick needle for yarn.
  4. The fork is wooden, if not - ordinary.
  5. Scissors.

Stages of work on the tapestry:

  • From thick paper, cut a circle with a diameter of 30-40 cm.
  • In the diameter of the circle, we make cuts by 2 cm. The distance between the incisions is 2-3 cm.
  • We pull the cotton thread on the circle. The base thread will not be visible at the end, so its color is unimportant.
  • We stretch the thread into the needle and fix the thread-Osnov in the center of the circle. We make stitches, then go to linen weaving.
  • We pass the talked thread through each thread-Osnov, thus weaving in a circle. We do it 25-30 times.
  • Using the fork, seal and level the threads.
  • Change the color of the thread. To fix the new thread, make a knot or twist behind a thread-Osnov.
  • We pass the white thread through two threads of the base.
  • We alternate colors at our discretion.

Fantasy is endless here. The possibility of choosing different colors and textures.

Work on embroidery tapestry

Work tools:

  1. Needle.
  2. Threads.
  3. Dense fabric.
  4. Frame for fixing the fabric.

Stages of work on non -woven tapestry:

  1. Using a stapler, attach the fabric to the frame.
  2. Draw a sketch on thick paper.
  3. Place the sketch on the fabric and circle with a pencil. To correct it, if something did not work out.
  4. When the drawing is ready, circle it with a felt -tip pen.
  5. We stretch the thread into the needle.
  6. We make stitches along the contour of the picture, gradually filling the entire drawing.
  7. If necessary, change the color of the thread.

How to make voluminous tapestry

There are several ways to make volumetric tapestry:

  • “Kosichka” - by wrapping with threads of the base through one or two threads. If you need to achieve a convex texture, a flower for example, it is necessary to alternate this technique with the usual one, when the tireless thread is threaded through one thread.
  • “Nodes” - first we make the lower row, which will serve as a background. Next, we knit nodules with a filament with a needle, tightly adjacent to each other. The nodules are leveled on the surface and create the desired texture. Thus, we draw a picture, for example, chamomile.
  • "Embroidery" - we make a background. And we sew the future drawing on it, using various methods of weaving. It turns out a double tapestry.

Recommendations for work on the tapestry:

  • Before starting work, decide on the picture. For novice masters, it is better to choose a not difficult picture, without small elements.
  • Using a pencil and tracing paper, make a sketch of the main drawing. Circle the main contours.
  • The threads are pulled strongly, but they should not be like guitar strings. The fingers between the threads should pass freely.
  • The yarn is selected according to the picture and the desired texture.
  • Decide in which color scheme the picture will be made, select the threads of the necessary colors.
  • It is best to start weaving from the lower right angle.
  • Relibly attach the pattern under the thread-one.
  • Use a fork for compaction of the nodes. With patting movements, drive nodes after weaving each row.
  • In the process, check the width of the tapestry.
  • The free edge of the thread should be kept free.
  • At the end of the work, check that the upper and lower rows are the same width.
  • When the tapestry is ready, it is nailed to a large frame or stretched. Then covered with a wet cloth and left for a day.
  • Through the fabric, the tapestry is ironed with an iron.

Tapestry - an interesting design solution for the interior

The tapestry technique has not lost its popularity for more than two millennia, modern tapestries are fascinating their eyes and give the interior special uniqueness. The tapestries fit perfectly into both classic and modern design styles.

Most often, tapestries are used in country houses. Large walls and ceilings allow you to place whole series of tapestries, united by one theme.

A variety of ornaments of juicy and balanced colors, mythological and medieval scenes, stylized paintings of plants and animals harmoniously fit into any interior.

The tapestries are not only hanging on the walls, but also present in the design of a house or apartment in the form of tapestries, covers for pillows, tablecloths, napkins, paintings. Even furniture and walls are sheathed with tapestries. In these cases, of course, machine tapestry is used.

The tapestry gives the general style sophistication, luxury and versatility. A great addition to the tapestry will be a mosaic, stained glass and fusing. And vases, candlesticks and figurines will make the style more classic.
