Preparation of the door

Even the oldest and most cracked door leaf can be updated using improvised means or by investing at least finances. But before starting to decorate the wooden door, it is necessary to carefully prepare it.

The course of work:

First you should remove the old paintwork. This is necessary so that the new finish is held on the surface as tightly as possible, as well as from health -preserving reasons - the old paint has managed to absorb a lot of microbes over the years. Remove the door leaf from the hinges. To do this, open the door, stick between its lower edge and the floor of the Fomku or another suitable object to make the semblance of a lever. Press the lever with non -senile, but confident movements, opening the door. Be careful - it can weigh quite a lot, especially when it comes to old Soviet doors made of pressed wood.
Put the door on the table and remove all the accessories - loops, locks, pens. If there are glass inserts, it is also better to remove them.

After removing the paint, evaluate the condition of the canvas. If there are chips and cracks on it, fill them with putty wood.
Treat the entire surface with a grinding or sandpaper manually - the door should be even and smooth.
Wipe the surface with a damp rag to remove dust, but in no case do not urinate the wood.
Treat the door with an antiseptic.
If you want to leave the natural texture of wood, then after this stage the surface can be covered with several layers of varnish. You can also make the tone darker by treating the door leaf with a stain. With its help, it turns out to imitate noble breeds, turning a pine into cherries or Merbau. If you are going to repaint the door again or resort to other methods of finishing, after drying the antiseptic, cover the surface with a primer in 2 layers.

For this, not only the enamel, which was used since the time of the USSR, was suitable for almost everything from painting batteries, ending with walls, doors, stools and floors. The modern building materials market offers such a variety of colors that buying enamel is even somehow a shame.

The best option for staining doors is acrylic paints. They are very convenient in work, do not exude almost no smell (unlike the odorous enamel), are represented in a wide color palette. With the choice of flowers, you should be careful if, of course, you did not decide to dwell on a plain version. For work, you will need special stained glass paints, a volumetric circuit on glass (silver, white or black), stencils or a sketch in a 1: 1 scale.

How to decorate the door with stained glass windows:

Lay out the sketch in a natural size on a flat surface (floor or large table).
Lower the glass door on top. By the way, a stained -glass window can be made on glass inserts of a wooden door.
Since the sketch is clearly visible through the glass, circle all lines with an artistic contour and wait for its drying.
Fill the spaces between the contour with stained glass paints of the corresponding colors.

Mosaic on the door

Mosaic can be performed by the decor of the metal door or an ordinary wooden canvas without inserts. This is the best option for the bathroom, since the mosaic is not afraid of moisture. The pieces from which you can collect the image can be made not only from ceramics. Glass compositions, a metal mosaic look very beautiful. And if you crave peremptory originality, the door can be decorated with river or sea pebbles.

Whatever material you choose, it should be borne in mind that the mosaic will significantly increase the weight of the door. Make sure the door frame is in the proper condition and strengthen it if necessary. To reduce the load, instead of heavy ceramics or stones, you can use a wooden veneer or acrylic glass.

To fasten the mosaic, use “liquid nails”. Before gluing, apply a sketch on the door with a simple pencil, think through all the colors and prepare the right amount of material. It is best to start with the largest fragments, for example, if you decide to lay out the bird on the branch, first make a branch, then the body of the bird, and then smaller parts - eyes, leaves, legs, etc.

Artistic painting

We promised that almost all the options set forth in this article can be implemented without special artistic skills. But it is simply impossible not to mention the painting of the doors, especially since there are many techniques. If an artist languishes inside you, there are no questions - give him free rein and paint the door along and across. For the rest, you can choose the options easier.

The stencil, for example, can also be called artistic painting, albeit with a stretch. Stencils for doors decor can be done independently or purchased in an art store. You can also apply paint through them in different ways - from a cylinder, using a sponge or a brush. The idea for a stencil can be taken, from simple plant ornaments, ending with reproductions of the works of famous street artists.

Useful advice: Working with paint in a spray, take into account that spray can fall on the walls, floor and standing next to furniture, so it is better to cover all surfaces within a radius of the door with film or rags.

If you make a stencil yourself, cut it out of thick paper, plastic film or cardboard. Ideally, it is better for newcomers to use a self -adhesive film (yelling) to make the drawing clear.

Moldings on the door

If you want to make the door leaf more expressive, highlight the moldings. Molders are called relief contours, and they can be painted in contrasting colors, for example, a classic version - a white canvas with black moldings. If the door is solid, do not despair - you can buy moldings separately at any time and attach them to any place you like. To fix wooden strips, use liquid nails.

The decoration of the interior doors with moldings should be carried out carefully so as not to overdo it with shades. We recommend using the table of the colors indicated above. Doors decoupage

Decoupage in the past few years has not lost total popularity, but it is usually used to decorate boxes, bottles and stools. Why not decorate the door? To do this, you will need to pick up a little more beautiful cuts from magazines, napkins and newspapers, but the result will exceed all expectations. Without artistic skills, you can turn an ordinary door into a real art object.

Necessary tools and materials:

images that you want to transfer to the door (napkins, clippings, postcards, etc.);
synthetic brush;
pVA glue;

acrylic paint;
acrylic varnish;

scissors.

If briefly, the whole process looks quite straightforward: first, the surface is painted with white acrylic paint and waited until it dries. Then apply the second layer. This is necessary in order to create a substrate - on a white background, the selected shade of paint for the decor of the door and the drawings will look brighter and clearer. A layer of color acrylic is applied to the substrate and images are glued to it. If these are napkins, then their paper is very thin - you need to work carefully, prevent the appearance of folds, gaps and air bubbles.

Glitter and circuit are needed to draw points, stripes and other small details that can complement the composition and make it more voluminous. When the glue dries, the door is covered with transparent acrylic varnish. As you can see, it all depends on your imagination and correctly selected images.

Wallpaper on the door

The easiest way after staining the door is pasting their wallpaper. But even in this case, one should not think that we are talking about mediocre “boring” pieces of paper - everything is much more interesting.
